About this deal

As a result, the track listing for Mono Masters differs from Past Masters on the second half of disc two, omitting some later songs that never had a mono mix ("Old Brown Shoe", "The Ballad of John and Yoko" and "Let It Be"), and adding several songs released on stereo-only albums that had unreleased mono mixes. Now, I'm wondering if there is an LP, CD or download release that has true mono versions of the Star Club recordings. Since 2014, Ruben has written news, reviews, features, guides, and everything in-between at a huge variety of outlets that include Lifewire, PCGamesN, GamesRadar+, TheGamer, Twinfinite, and many more. I was 11 years old in 1967, so most of my most intense listening (teenage and college years) was in stereo.

The stereo mixes are quaint, with a lot of hard panning common to stereo mixes of rock music at the time. The Beatles in Mono is a boxed set compilation comprising the remastered monaural recordings by the Beatles. The CD set also includes a 44-page booklet with an essay on the important role that the mono mixes played in the Beatles' recording career, notes on every track featured in Mono Masters, and a track-by-track listing of the recordings.

Naturally, this kind of added complexity to music wasn't really possible to the same extent with mono, which just has a single channel, so whatever sound you're hearing come out of your left earbud/speaker will be identical to the sound coming out of your right earbud/speaker, meaning you're taking less advantage of humans having two ears. I was amazed at the number of differences I could hear; not just mixing differences, but really big differences, like missing backing vocals on the stereo Fixing A Hole and of course a whole lot of missing special effects from the stereo Lucy. Magical Mystery Tour was not included in the set as it was not originally issued as an LP in the UK. If something was originally recorded and made for mono, then later trying to reprocess it for stereo isn’t necessarily going to produce better results, sometimes the result could be a disaster. Abbey Road and Let It Be were issued in the UK in mono on reel-to-reel tape and on LP in Brazil and other countries but, again, only as fold-downs from the respective stereo versions.Tracks 9–12 and 15 of disc two were prepared in March 1969 for release as a 7" mono Yellow Submarine EP, two months after the release of the similarly titled soundtrack album, but the project was scrapped, although the EP was mastered. These are either "a revelation", "interesting", an "aberration" or "historical revisionism" depending on who you ask.

When I bought my first box set of the collected works of The Beatles, I got it in stereo, because why wouldn't I?The thirteen-disc (fourteen on LP) collection contains the remastered mono versions of every UK Beatles album released in true mono, plus Magical Mystery Tour, which in 1967 was only issued as an LP (in mono and stereo mixes, and augmented with the A- and B-sides of their recent singles) in the USA, Canada and a few other countries; in the UK and many other countries it was originally only issued as a 6-track double soundtrack EP (in both mono and stereo versions) and the album version wasn't issued until 1976, and then only in stereo. For decades, we've all been swimming in the great stereo sea, enjoying almost all of our audio content in stereo. The albums Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road and Let It Be are not included in this set, as no true mono mixes of these albums were issued.
