About this deal

Have Questions about Henry, Hetty, Charles, George – or any other vacuums? We may already have the answer… What’s the best Henry for my small home or outhouse? When it comes to cleaning stairs, Hetty is perhaps not the best. Firstly, even though the hose is a decent length, I found that it was not long enough to leave the machine at either the bottom or top of the staircase. This meant that I had to physically carry the Hetty with me in one hand as I climbed the stairs, vacuuming as I went. Now, I did not find this to be much of an issue, but if you have mobility or strength issues, this definitely will be something that will cause you grief. I was able to rest the machine on one of the corner steps at the top of my staircase, but it was a bit precarious, balancing on the edge:

As we mentioned above, the standard Henry bags (Numatic NVM-1CH) are self-sealing, and capable of storing up to five times more intake than conventional bagless hoovers. Trying It Out One last thing to mention about the floor head is how good it is at reaching underneath furniture. I found that it was adequate at reaching perhaps 1/3 of the way under our double bed, but it did not reach the very centre, with the extension tubes attached. For this, I swapped out the combination floor tool for the upholstery brush, which is largely the same type of tool (just a lot smaller), and this was more than adequate to finish the job well. In terms of its size, this hoover is fantastic for small home owners. It’s light, portable, and the form factor of the vacuum is fairly cube-shaped. There’s also on-board storage for extension tools, meaning they’re less easily lost in that storage cupboard you rarely tidy. The Hetty Hoover wattage of 620 watts is almost half of its previous 1200 watts, and whilst a reduction of that significance sounds large, there has been no weakness in performance. If anything, Hetty seems even more powerful now thanks to changes made by Numatic to improve the machine’s efficiency. There are different aspects of Henry vacuums that come with a class rating. Energy Efficiency is one, suction another. There may be more. As a general rule, Class A is the best you can buy. A Traditional Henry has an Energy Class A rating, for example. Other Considerations to Make Before Buying a Henry Vacuum Cleaner

Is the Hetty the right fit for you?

A true design icon, the Numatic Henry is a vacuum cleaner that’s loved by thousands – including professional cleaners. And all for good reason: it offers a large capacity, it’s well priced, it cleans well, and has a reputation for lasting forever. Here on review I have the latest version of the Numatic Henry. It doesn’t stray too far from previous models, but has been designed to meet vacuum cleaner power limits. As we mentioned earlier in the review, we don’t think the Hetty is the most convenient vacuum to use around the home. It’s quite bulky and heavy, plus the circular design can be awkward to use. There are still some handy ease of use features included though, such as:

One thing we like about the vacuum is its low noise output. At 72dB, it’s not the quietest vacuum we’ve reviewed, but it’s considerably less noisy than most. Ease of Use Most of these machines have only one or two controls. An off/on switch and the cord winder. They may have a high/low setting (like the traditional Henry) and they may have a wet/dry setting (like the George). Finally, the Xtra can switch between hard floors and carpets as a special feature. Storage This tool was also really handy when it came to cleaning the boot of our car (more on that below), as well as the carpet underneath the bed that the floor tool couldn’t reach (as previously mentioned). Crevice Tool Add to that all the usual benefits of the Henry range such as 9 litre capacity, a sturdy frame and reliable, long-lasting performance and you have the perfect addition for any pet lover’s home.

The cherry on top is that it is an energy class A. Plus the Airobrush and the extra attachment for hard floors.

The Harry has won Which? Best Buy awards for basically being brilliant. It’s good enough at removing pet hair that they give it their stamp of approval. Note: The Hetty is short for the Numatic Henrietta, so if you see people talk about the Henrietta this is actually the same vacuum. Overview of the Hetty HooverOver seven million Henry hoovers have been made since it was first put into production by Numatics International in 1981. In the time that has since passed, they’ve made some minor iterative improvements, but – for the most part – the Hetty today is the same as the Henry we first met almost four decades ago. One of the great aspects of this is its allergy retention, which is great for those of us who start sneezing every time the dust gets agitated.
