It wasn't open as it was during the morning but I saw the menu outside and thought it sounded appealing. Evening dinner including weeknight specials are on offer with regularly changing menus and delicious food. Even though our package with Daish’s holidays included an evening meal we still like to include one evening out at a local restaurant.

My husband booked the bistro as an anniversary surprise and I can honestly say he did not disappoint. In terms of the quality of the food, friendliness of the staff and lack of noisy, intrusive music then this has to be one of the best bistros in the bay.

Really great food, it’s obvious the staff take a lot of pride in the food they’re making and serving you. Having ate the previous night at a “rated” pub which we were disappointed with, we were really glad to eat in the Waddling Duck.

We visited the Waddling Duck on a Saturday evening and were greeted on our arrival and shown to our table. Lunch was very tasty, very good quality of ingredients and presented lovely, the shared veg was just perfect. We have had the pleasure of dining here many times and the food, service and ambiance has always been first class. Even our 1 year old daughter got in on the action and is delighted to have her own little duck 🦆Amber you can babysit for us any time!

Dined here midweek with friends, immediately made to feel welcome and that set the tone for an excellent evening, restaurant has a good relaxed ambiance, a small but quality menu of varied dishes all superbly presented, and full of flavour, refreshing change from the standard. this was our second visit to the Waddling Duck and it did not disappoint Lydia and Russell have absolutely nailed it, we brought friends with us this time one of whom is vegetarian and the other peskatarian and they both raved about the food, (phew! For Jean it was a “no brainier” to go for the Baileys crème brûlée with shortbread biscuit and strawberry slices. Lydia is so professional as front of house and Russell’s cooking is without question the best in Torbay.

I would give it one more star if they improved the vegetarian options and maybe had softer lighting. Being on holiday in Torquay we were looking for a good Sunday lunch - well we found an immense Sunday lunch - Lydia and her colleague was so welcoming to this lovely Bistro, the food was delicious. Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor. The slices were sat in a nice pool of the slightly tart cherry sauce which complemented the slight “fattyness’ of the duck. On my plate were eight, quite thick, slices of duck breast, and a large slice of the dauphinoise potato which looked as though it had come from a huge “cake”.

The decor is cool and calm and there are, not surprisingly, pictures of, and toy and model ducks everywhere.

My only suggestion would be to dim the lights and get some candles for the tables, its not particularly atmospheric at the moment. However, it is not something I would have again as I much prefer the Italian, Turkish and Greek lagers.
