About this deal

The 'Chocolate Mining Bee' (also known as Andrena scotica or previously as Andrena carantonica) is a solitary bee species. These tiny insects are able to crawl into the anthers of cacao flowers and help them to pollinate - an essential duty, as unlike other plants, cacao cannot self-fertilise. They especially like to visit willows, hawthorns, fruit trees, maples, blackthorns, dandelions, umbellifers, hawk's beards and brambles, all of which are present in my surrounding area. A silent orchard would not only be eerily melancholy, it would be unable to produce the delicious foods we take for granted.

Both of these cleptoparasites may be seen lurking outside the entrance of Andrena scotica nest burrows. Once a nest is dripping with honey, you can harvest honey by using a glass bottle on it, or honeycomb by using shears.Multiple male ivy bees often target the same female and become entangled in a frenzied 'mating ball'. Inside a solitary bee nest is a series of egg cells, each protected by a wall of material and provisioned with nectar and pollen. These novelty chocolate bees are ideal for token gifts, childrens parties and themed events/promotions. Thankfully, the Tequila Interchange Projectis underway, which advocates sustainable practices that can keep both bats and tequila thriving for years to come.

In most cases, these are in fact chocolate mining bees, Andrena scotica, which are dark, similar in size to honey bees and resemble them closely. Then, when the bee provisions a nest cell, one or more larval Strepsiptera enter into the larval bee's body and settle in its abdomen. In early Spring, we often receive enquiries about potential sightings of native Scottish honey bees. Join the North East Ladybird Spot today and help protect these colourful insects across the North East Join the North.

The honeycomb can be taken out of the hive by hand or piped out; to turn it into useful resources, it then needs to be run through a centrifuge, which will produce wax, liquid honey, and bee-specific resources such as redstone, raw iron, wood chips, etc.

Using their legs, they dig into the ground to create a tunnel, which then splits into different chambers where they lay their eggs.
