J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2000;15(5):489-493. doi:10.1046/j.1440-1746.2000.02162.x Our Moothwash uses new natural technologies such as a Lactobacillus Ferment to control oral bacteria. Each essential oil we use is chosen for its anti-bacterial action including Thyme, Cinnamon, Myrrh, and Clovebud. We also know that we could make the world’s most effective mouthwash, but if it doesn’t taste fresh, nobody will use it. So we use Stevia and a natural flavour so kids don’t go “Bleeuuh.” L-Arginine is an amino acid supplement that helps prevent tooth decay while preserving the health of the oral microbial flora.

Good and harmful bacteria are both present in your mouth. But we just want the good bacteria left, and the bad ones eliminated. The obvious way would be through traditional toothpaste, but as we have already discussed and as we know, traditional toothpaste is designed to eliminate 99% to even 99.9% of bacteria in our mouth. Additionally, turmeric can help to reduces teeth stains while also preventing the production of plaque. ( 3)You are probably wondering what else you can do, especially if you already have tooth decay or gum disease. Changing your diet is critical to dental health, but you may not be ready to completely give up on refined foods (or you ate them in the past, leaving your teeth vulnerable to decay) and brushing hasn’t helped enough. Similar to your gut, your mouth contains thousands of different types of bacteria, many of them potentially harmful. Like brushing and flossing our teeth, using a mouthwash can help bring down the level of destructive bacteria in your mouth. In a few words, while traditional toothpaste is meant to kill 99.9% of bacteria in your mouth, probiotic toothpaste has been specially designed to eliminate only what should be, and maintain what shouldn’t be eliminated, while at the same time, being gentle to you and your mouth. Most probiotics nonetheless are as has been discussed, vegan-friendly, and most others, gluten-free. Perhaps you also want something that is fluoride-free. Well, most probiotics are. A prescription mouthwash containing chlorhexidine can treat gingivitis, a gum disease that causes gums to swell and bleed. And for mouth cancer patients, some prescription mouthwashes can help in the management of mouth sores that may occur with chemotherapy or radiation.

Journalof Applied Microbiology, 100(4), 754-764 Maintaining good oral hygiene prevents most of the oral diseases. Oral hygiene habits among majority of the population include regular tooth brushing; but when mouthwash is used as an adjunct, it has positive synergistic effect in the oral cavity.[ 8] S. mutans is a gram-positive facultative anaerobe which initiates dental caries by metabolizing sucrose to lactic acid using the enzyme glucansucrase, creating an acidic environment in the oral cavity and thus facilitating demineralization of the enamel. It utilizes sucrose to form a dextran-based polysaccharide that helps in adhering to tooth surface, thereby forming dental plaque. Over 50 strains of S. mutans have been isolated, out of which 12 different strains are known to cause dental caries.[ 9] If you would like to also learn more about probiotic toothpastes, then this is the article for you.It is completely safe! You would expect toothpaste to contain fluoride. If it does, then it may not be advisable to eat it. It’ll also not be good if you come to accidentally swallow it. Probiotic toothpastes do not contain fluorides. You can therefore ingest them if you like, since most have a sweet taste.
