The main character is struggling to to create her own little family and dealing with infertility, all the while facing her complicated feelings around her brother, her own childhood and how her family came to be.

She argues when these private moments are placed in the public eye, they are interpreted through societal codes such as, motherhood; allowing the viewer to interpret the narrative of the work through their subjective views. In describing a young woman talking to the narrator's husband at a party: “Her hands were thrust coolly in her pockets, as if pinning her otherwise weightless frame to the earth. A little corner shelf-wear with light lower front corner crease to cover else VG bright and unmarked. It deals with issues around international adoption, racism, addiction, sibling bonds formed and stretched. Every moment seems to illustrate a transcendence, yes, but those moments remain ragged and of the flesh even as they float towards holiness.

This is the way we carry trauma, in our bones, in our essential material; I believe it’s also the way we carry ecstasy.
