About this deal

Explore the world, collect Blocks, fight Mobs, and build defensive buildings before marauding Illagers invade.

This game is just really random, as there’s no real mitigation of dice, and combat is just “lucky”: you roll the the die thee times and hope you beat the MOBs! However, the player has to move their player piece to a world tile if they wish to perform an action. During a turn, the player must perform two actions, and are allowed to perform the same action twice. True Minecraft experience - Developed in collaboration with Mojang, Minecraft: Heroes of the Village is a great board game experience. Each player chooses an avatar, and takes the appropriate avatar blue/green puzzle piece (left) and corresponding white piece (bottom): see above. You only have a limited time to build the Village structures; the Illagers (see red avatar above) move closer and closer to you every turn. This seems like an easy rule to add: it’s simple, it makes the game more cooperative, and it allows some mitigation of bad dice. Elia and Something Shiny be a fantastic cooperative game for both kids and adults: see our review here. CC (with his family goggles on) said he thought it was a decent family game and would play it again with kids, but probably not outside of that context.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. On your turn you will have 2 actions to spend on exploring the world, collecting blocks, fighting mobs, and building.

Once the starting tile is set up, the four blocks pictured on the back of the starting tile are to be placed into the pouch (one each of wood, sand, stone, and darkness). Horse: When a player is exploring the world, they are allowed to add two world tiles to the world, placing the corresponding blocks inside the pouch. It is designed to be, and targeted for, an audience that likes the IP and wants a cooperative experience to play within the Minecraft world.

Build – Players can trade in their resources at the central board space to construct or contribute building materials to the construction of one of the three structures. In some ways, this game feels like a much lighter Ygdrassil (a bag-building game that made our Top 10 Cooperative Games Off The Beaten Path). But just once or twice … the problem is, I personally would tire of it very quickly: it’s just a little too random. The funnest cooperative part of the game is trying to figure out when to put cubes into the bags (“explore”) and when to draw to try to get some blocks (“mine”). Each village structure show you what blocks it needs to be built: these are blocks you’ll be “mining” by pulling from a bag.
