About this deal

Co- founder of The Gro Company, Rob Holmes said: “When our son William was three he used to wake us up every morning at 5am asking if it was time to get up. Using images of the stars and the sun, and colours to represent each (blue and yellow, respectively), the clock teaches your kid when he’s supposed to be sleeping and when he’s allowed to wake up, using the times you've preset. We practised by pretending to sleep, wake, see it was blue, pretend sleep again then switch it to the yellow sun then wake up all happy. On the first night, set the clock's sun to rise for the time your kid usually wakes up—even if it’s ridiculously early.

A simple piece of kit that fits over your usual bedside lamp or overhead light, this light offers a soft glow when you flick the switch. You’re able to set two different wake up times with the Gro Clock which I’ve not done yet as Arjun seems to be sleeping through for now. Once Ethan was sleeping through the night we were ready to tackle his early waking times, and we did this by using a Gro-Clock. Due to popular request, this 2010 version of the Gro-Clock has a new feature allowing parents to choose whether or not to display the digital clock during the usual ‘stars to sun’ countdown. Disclosure: this is a sponsored post either in the form of remuneration or a free product being sent to us for review however all thoughts and opinions are our own.

The clock comes with an illustrated book which you read at bedtime before saying night night to Mr Sun before he morphs in to Mr Star. Think my sons a little old now at 5 but this would have been great around 3 though knowing my son he would have wanted to touch and play with it and reset everything too! There is a key lock feature but this can only be activated once the sleep times are activated and I would have liked to be able to lock the clock all of the time. When it gets to the wake up time you have chosen, the display will change to a yellow sun, meaning it is time to get up.

Not just any clock, the Gro-Clock helps children to understand and recognise the difference between sleep time and getting up time. He hasn’t quite grasped the wake up routine part with the Gro Clock yet but it’s definitely helped a lot at bed times. The first day I set the clock, I wasn’t 100% sure I had set it right and there was no way to test it beforehand. He is calmer and more settled getting into his cot than before meaning we are less stressed as parents and it has resulted in happier, calmer bedtimes in the BattleHousehold. Other parents use the intercom on their baby monitor to tell their kids they have to wait for the sun. When I consulted the information book I discovered that it had a function on the clock to combat this in the form of a lock so little fingers can’t mess around with it. The Gro Company specialise in the manufacturing of safer sleep solutions for babies and make everything from Gro-lights to black out Gro Anywhere Blinds.
