About this deal

The positive outcome of reading this book is that it has reminded me of the simple things that I can do that will increase my odds of greater longevity. By the way, you may also want to check out this review of Diaz’s first book, “ Interesting facts about food and the body I learned from reading “The Body Book” by Cameron Diaz. He had a remarkable piece of good luck, which was that the wife of one of the first men that he did this on had a baby within a year. Armstrong’s work is an excellent starting point for anyone just getting into longevity to understand the comprehensive systems that dictate aging. I just recently finished reading “ The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength and the Privilege of Time,” by Cameron Diaz, with Sandra Bark, which is a follow-up to “The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength and Other Amazing Ways to Love Your Body” — a book I totally enjoyed.

Steven Austad is a professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her latest project, The Longevity Book, dives deep into the aging process and how women can (and should) totally own it. Nutrition and fitness and rest work together to promote cellular growth, repair, and energy production, allowing all the body's systems to function optimally. Proper nutrient intake is essential to longevity, but many humans still seem to make poor diet choices. What she found out is that if she plotted how long animals live against the number of cells in their brain, humans fell right on the line, rather than being this big outlier that they were previously. Parietal: essential for skin sensations; injury can result in confusion about space, and inability to recognise things by touch and a general confusion about simple tasks, like getting dressed. On the far horizon, progressive technologies like AI-brain integration could allow us multiple centuries of healthy living. The Longevity Book will explore what history, biology, neuroscience and the women's health movement can teach us about maintaining optimal health as we transition from our 30s to midlife, from how growing older impacts various bodily systems to the biological differences in the ways ageing effects men and women, from the latest science on telomeres and slowing the rate of cognitive decline to how meditation heals us and why love, friendship and laughter matter for health. But diving into the emerging longevity industry – the same ambitious sector aiming to defy aging, delay the onset of various diseases, and extend healthy human lifespans – is no easy task.I think Cameron Diaz is beautiful and I thought that she might describe how she ages so gracefully, but as the title indicates, it really is the scientific description of how we age.
