Classic American staples like Chamber Folk, Dixieland, Ragtime, and Baroque Pop plop in and out of existence, mixed naturally with ominous Ambient fanfare. RICH AMERICAN FOLKLORE CULLING THE FALLEN LEAVES First let's reiterate a sentiment shared by any who review The Blasting Company's Over The Garden Wall soundtrack: Go watch the TV series. Fair warning: I imagined the vinyl to look more sparkly golden but it’s definitely more of a tan now that I see it in person.

Due to inventory and accounting purposes, we do not exchange items received for different items than originally purchased. Extremely autumnal and Americana in spirit, the soundtrack reflects the show’s various visually aesthetic influences to a T, and includes covers of songs popularized by the likes of Woody Guthrie and other artists from the early 20th century alongside its original work. But Over the Garden Wall takes a complex, honestly quite critical viewpoint on folklore, and stories in general--they're the loveliest lies of all, but they're still, y'know, lies. As with the esoteric animation, brazen characters, and mystical setting, the soundtrack comes equip with atmosphere unlike anything in the genre. And whilst I'd be kidding myself if I said that most of the tracks here could truly stand on their own feet outside of the context of the series itself, their innate charm and childlike sweetness makes me think that I'd enjoy this album even if I hadn't already watched and and adored the show they come from (and if you have seen the series, then listening to this is like wrapping yourself in a warm, hand-stitched blanket of nostalgia).

OTGW follows two brothers, Wirt and Greg, as they try to make their way home while lost in a forest where they meet a variety of interesting and unusual characters. It's best set in the lead-up to Halloween though, given the vibrant, mellifluous use of whimsical characters both kind and wicked.As I said on my previous review, my choice highlights have to be the tracks featuring vocal contributions from veteran singers Jack Jones ("Into the Unknown" and the title track) and Chris Isaak ("Patient is the Night"), since they each bring a honeyed warmth to their songs that makes for an ideal match for the series' gently whimsical tone; "Patient in the Night" in particular is absolutely gorgeous - so crisply autumnal! Pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl, featuring original artwork by Sam Wolf Connelly and a 20 page booklet featuring lyrics from every song, as well as sheet music, so you can play along!

Now I discover that there actually IS an official soundtrack to this series, and it's even more comprehensive than the 'deluxe' version I scrounged from obscure YouTube uploads (there's even a version with bonus tracks! Pressed on 140 Gram Vinyl, featuring original artwork by Sam Wolf Connelly, and a 20 page booklet featuring lyrics from every song, as well as sheet music, so you can play along! Though it is November and the leaves are perpetually descending from their mantle atop branches, I'd still suggest viewing Over The Garden Wall. Not a single of the 32 tracks eclipses two and a half minutes in length, which is both a blessing and a curse.

I combed youtube to add a whole bunch of other music from the series to my collection, since not only does this bootleg miss out some of the songs it also doesn't have any of the show's delightful instrumentals.Composed and performed by The Blasting Company (Brandon Armstrong, Joshua Kaufman, Justin Rubenstein) Over The Garden Wall is a one of a kind experience. Truthfully, as is the case with most instrumental passages removed from their origin, the Ambient moments dotting Over The Garden Wall don't offer much in the way of replayability.
