The Millington sisters have continued to play music together since the split, and formed the spin-off group Fanny Walked The Earth in 2018. Prior to recording their first album, the band recruited keyboardist Nickey Barclay while bringing in early Svelts member Brie Brandt. In fact, their producer, Richard Perry, had just scored a novelty hit with Tiny Tim’s Tiptoe Through the Tulips. They carried on in the UK, recording their fourth album, “ Mother’s Pride ,” with producer Todd Rundgren, but the pressure to record a hit was still mounting. FANNY WALKED THE EARTH is the most recent incarnation of Fanny, an amalgam of several early, Northern California all girl bands from the mid to late '60's". While some other all-female bands had already gotten signed, including Goldie and the Gingerbreads, the Pleasure Seekers and the Freudian Slips (which included sometime Fanny drummer Howard), Fanny’s self-titled, 1970 debut was the first such major label album to appear. Bowie would bring up Fanny at regular intervals during his last decades, campaigning for the world to ‘revivify’ Fanny. Eric Johnson emerged with two albums– The Book of Making and Yesterday Meets Today—featuring nine songs on each LP. After formally coming together to form the group and relocating to Los Angeles, Fanny landed a deal in 1969 with Reprise Records, becoming the first-ever all-female rock band to sign a record deal for a full-length album. With a break of 43 years I obviously had no expectation that they would simply pick up where they left off. After the breakup, in 1975 the Millington sisters put together a new line-up of Fanny for a short tour, though no older Fanny material was played.They were extraordinary: they wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody's ever mentioned them. The excitement around the album and other opportunities come to a temporary halt as the documentary reveals Jean Millington had a severe stroke, paralyzing the right side of her body, just one week before their first scheduled live show to launch the new album. The Millingtons continued to record together after Fanny as well, most recently on the 2011 album Play Like a Girl on June's label Fabulous Records. The core line-up comprises sisters June and Jean Millington on guitar and bass, with drummer Brie Darling.
