About this deal

Blade Runner 2049 brought up so many thought-provoking ideas about heady issues and themes like love, having a soul, and what it means to be human that I needed to take a walk for a mile or two to process everything. Whilst Scott's original is a visually iconic 80s sci-fi masterpiece, Villeneuve's Roger Deakins-shot sequel boasts its own distinctive visual majesty, with some of the most jaw-dropping shots in any film of recent times. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. Background environments are rich with fine detail, with every setting stunningly realised here, from the clinical police station location to the muddy protein farm, to the golden Egyptian pyramid-like Wallace headquarters, to the unhealthily orange desert, with that last environment bearing the closest similarity to some of the textured locales in the original.

After leaving the theater on opening day, I learned that Blade Runner 2049 was not only a great filmbut also one of the best sequels ever made as it smartly expands upon the world and themes of the original and charts its own course with compelling new characters to follow. While a lot of stuff is covered, 21 minutes feels a tad short for my taste, this could be its own feature-length documentary I'm sure. Designing the World of Blade Runner 2049 (HD 21:55) With cast, crew, and creative team interviews, this is a pretty fantastic look at the making of the world of this sequel. Roger Deakins has stated that he's not a huge fan of HDR and we can't tell if the 4K is hugely brighter or darker than the Full HD Blu-ray as it would seem it's subtly implemented.

While I won't go so far as to say that Blade Runner 2049 is as good as or better than the original Blade Runner, it gets pretty damn close. Blade Runner arguably still has the measure of its progeny, but that speaks volumes as to how good 2049 often is. The colors, the details, the sense of depth and lighting of the film - if you love the Rodger Deakins' work as a cinematographer, you're going to want to come back to this disc, again and again, to soak in all of the imagery. Below are all 270 Blade Runner 2049 4k screenshots, there are maybe 10 duplicated where I wasn’t happy with the lighting and adjusted. The accompanying audio presentation is just as magnificent as the video, delivered in the guise of an object-based immersive audio track.

With decades of expectations stacked against it in addition to mypersonal bias, somehow Blade Runner 2049 emerged as an incredible sequel that not only proves its worth but expands and builds upon the foundations its predecessor. Ridley Scott himself has recently come out and said that part of the reason why this film didn't connect at the box office was probably due to its length. Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. That palette is often quite bleak, which makes Deakins’ artful use of coloring all the more striking when it appears, such as in the film’s Las Vegas sequences. As clean as dialogue is, there are long stretches of silence where no one is talking and all you're left with is atmosphere. It will, undoubtedly grow to be every bit the classic that the original was, in no small part thanks to the wondrous visuals, which here make for some of the best Ultra HD Blu-ray footage you will ever see, courtesy of 3. Sadly, there are no trailers for the film, nor are there any galleries of production artwork, or anything at all to do with the film’s score. The 4k Blu-Ray version of Blade Runner 2049 recently came out so I spent a few hours going through the movie frame-by-frame to get some of the most beautiful screenshots from the movie.
