About this deal

Continuing our review of Asus monitors of the week, today we have another model from the ROG STRIX series, this time featuring gaming and picture quality capabilities, as well as a few salty pricing.

The stand included with the Asus XG27AQM offers tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments for your convenience. It is easy to get a preferred view angle, plus the swivel joints are firm enough to hold the position you’ve set almost permanently. You can use VESA mounts with this model, but it’s unnecessary unless you want to save space or if you have a multi-monitor setup. With better than average IPS contrast, the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQ delivers a nicely saturated image with plenty of depth and dimension. The Dynamic Dimming feature is very effective at increasing the contrast of graphical content like games and videos. We used it for all our play tests. It doesn’t do much for static Windows apps though. In fact, we preferred it turned off when working because it’s a bit slow to respond to changes in the overall picture level. We couldn’t see it operating when gaming. However, if you’re using a variable refresh rate (AMD FreeSync Premium or NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible), you’ll have to change to overdrive level according to your frame rate: Image quality is assured by an extended gamut that covers over 91% of DCI-P3 as confirmed by our tests. Accuracy is also assured by an enclosed data sheet, but we found some visible gains in quality with calibration and careful selection of picture modes. HDR10 signals are supported with a peak output of over 400 nits and dynamic contrast which takes the ratio up to over 22,000:1. You can use this feature for SDR signals too and see a similarly broad dynamic range. Overall, the ASUS XG27AQM is an excellent 1440p 240Hz gaming display, but there are much cheaper alternatives. Specifications Screen SizePeople with outdated graphics cards may choose a lower resolution to guarantee they get the high frame ratios the monitor can offer because reproducing 1080p images is far less demanding on graphics cards than reproducing 2k images. When it comes to color fidelity, this display shines in its own right. It has a DCI-P3 97 percent, which is a little far from the required level for accuracy, but it does give rich and vibrant colors on the other hand. For the most majority of users, a 400 nits ratio is more than adequate, and it’s a safe bet even if your screen will be exposed to sunlight during your time of use. While standard IPS panels are recognized for their excellent picture quality but slow response times, the Fast IPS will combine both advantages in one: fast response times and great image quality.

The first is that this will be a gaming-focused display, with maybe a low resolution and higher refresh rate, or that it will be a hybrid monitor with excellent image quality, high resolution, and gaming features.

Conclusion ELMB-Sync can be used at the same time as variable refresh rate or at a fixed refresh rate (120Hz, 144Hz, 165Hz, 240Hz or 270Hz). To keep the pricing consistent, they opted not to cut corners on the ASUS XG27AQM‘s overall brightness, instead adding 400 nits of peak ratio.
