The upper is a dual layer mesh, more visible in colorways with contrasting uppers, but this remains thin and super breathable. This is Nike Metcon 4 Versus Nike Metcon 6 -The 6 is definitely better than the 4 – time to upgrade! Beyond the upper, everything else is carried over unchanged from the Metcon 5. The all-rubber, flat, super grippy outsole is still there. The Nike Metcon 6 is a great training shoe whether you are doing a CrossFit WOD, a functional fitness workout, or just bodybuilding in the gym. The Inov-8 BARE-XF 210 V3 does everything you would expect from a minimalist cross-training shoe: it's flexible, comfortable and provides excellent grip during workouts. Perfect for lifting sessions, although it might need some getting used to if you never tried barefoot shoes before. For sizing and fit, I think most athletes and lifters should be safe going true-to-size in the Nike Metcon 6. This model’s length fits true and the toe box has an adequate amount of room for toe splay. If you’ve ever worn Nike Metcon, then opt for your normal sizing. Price

Progress. If you feel like you’ve reached a plateau with your performance, try a metcon workout — you’ll challenge your body in a different way. When in doubt, squat. The heel feels quite loose in the FlyEase version of the shoe – that’s the tradeoff for the ability to put them on and take them off without using your hands. The purple slits you see on the forefoot of the Nike Metcon 7 are super maneuverable and that’s actually the Nike React Foam midsole. This is a pretty big difference compared to the fully rubber outsole of the Nike Metcon 6. Some find running tedious, only grudgingly incorporating it into workouts. Others swear by it and work to supplement their running with lower-body weight training. Regardless, if you’re cross-training, then light runs are probably part of your workout.

In an EMOM workout, you’ll complete a set number of reps at the start of every minute, and the remaining time will count as rest. You could describe cross-training shoes as the decathletes of the shoe world. They’re pretty good at everything and work across many modalities. If you’re training three to five times per week and mixing it up with cardio and weights, then look no further than the cross-trainers in this list. These types of accessory exercises are super important for runners looking to improve their speeds or prevent injuries (which is everyone right?!) and the typical running shoe just doesn’t cut it. The men’s version of the “Robot” Metcon 6 AMP is as stylish as the women’s version – but a little more manly and subdued. Finding shoes to accommodate wide feet can be a pain. Thankfully within the cross-training niche, you have several good options available as a wider foot can mean a more stable foot, which can ultimately benefit your workouts. Our current favorite for wide feet is the Reebok Nano X2.

I think both midsoles have their pros and cons. Personally, this is where understanding the context of your needs could factor into which midsole would be best for your performance. Upper Construction You can have the best-looking and most innovative technology in the world, but if your shoes aren’t good for cross-training, it’s pointless. Functionality factors into our more specialized selections. Take the best cross-training shoes for deadlifting, for example. They should be solid with a nice base of support and not too much give, whereas that’s not exactly what you’d want for a running-focused cross-training shoe. At the end of the day, the shoe has to function as it’s intended to for it to rank highly for us. DesignI wear a Men’s Size 11 (US) in all my Nike running shoes, and in most shoes from Reebok, UA, Adidas, etc. Like every dedicated training shoe, the most important construction characteristics are dictated by the demands of the activity.
