About this deal

This was such a hilarious and whimsical book, with a very unique story and style. I enjoyed reading this book so much! In an effort to find a way out of the bakery, Ari places an ad looking for a replacement. He finds Hector, a young man in town recovering after the death of his grandmother, who loves baking more than anything else. As Hector breathes new life into the bakery, he and Ari begin to develop a friendship, the intensity of which surprises both of them. This relationship could be the start of something special—if only Ari's impulsive behavior doesn't ruin everything. When a worldwide rain results in alien plant life taking over the Earth, three Canadian teens are the only ones strong enough to resist the invasion.

This is an amazing, remarkable and heartbreaking story about a wonderful family who have been through a horrific ordeal and together with the support of one another they manage to get through the toughest of times. The characters are very unique and varied, too. Each of the characters' growth throughout the story is interesting. This is the first eco-thriller I have come across for kids and I thought it was a refreshing step for middle graders albeit not for every reader. However, I believe it is best for the more mature or older teen audience. The characters were flat and super underdeveloped. I could not tell them apart whatsoever, which is not good when you have three points of view. Edit 25/8/2021) Following requests, I have also added a Powerpoint for each of the 32 lessons that totals over 200 slides for those that do not use SMART Notebook.)

Chris Dibrin – sent by the Governor to show the Pasteur crew around Saint Helier. He has an artificial intelligence implanted into his brain that enables him to think faster. The book has some amazing photography and a powerful message of recovery and determination, yes it can be seen as being over sentimental but life is harsh enough as it is, its good to see a victory every now and again - and this is not to make like of what happened there is still a long way to go but at least now there is something worth fighting for.

There are a total of 203 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) and each lesson is clearly marked, along with which lesson chapters should be read to aid and link to the learning. Ostensibly this is a romance between two young men (18 or 19?). Although nothing romantic really happens until about two-thirds of the way through the book. I liked the characters in here too. They are likable and I got used to them. And they each have their own little secret too. Oh, the second book (which I am partway through) says the characters are 16 (as they are having a birthday) so in this one they are 15. And it's set in Canada. But the thing is these three teens, they try to do things. They risk their lives to save others and hope an answer can be found. And the plants in here are never passive. They are out to get you.

Although Bloom is geared towards younger readers, I think Bloom is a book that anyone with an interest in science fiction or just a great story, will enjoy immensely. Sam was someone who surfed, swam, went skateboarding, running and mountain bike riding, plus she played football. After the accident, her whole life came to a halt, everything she held close to her heart needed to stop. Even the strongest can falter at this situation. Sam was strong but her family could see that they were losing her. Only a miracle could pull them through it. And that miracle happened when a tiny magpie came into the family. The family thought they were rescuing the injured bird, but in reality the bird saved the family in more than one ways. The bird 'Penguin' is a miracle all by itself.

They go to the island where one of their botanist dads is fighting to survive. There are 3 types of plants: vines, underground plant and water plants. The 3 kids survive and find a way to kill the plants (dirt). They use the dirt to kill the plants and make a spray which kills the plants. Sorrel really wants to be validated by the school's headmaster and is ready to do anything to earn an “Obedience Point”. She also wants to please her mum and make her proud, hence all the good behaviour at school. I don't know exactly what led me to read Bloom, the wonderful new graphic novel by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau, especially considering that I had read exactly one graphic novel before this, and it didn't quite make an impact on me. But something about this story of friendship, love, family, and baking captured my attention, and it has definitely piqued my interest in reading more graphic novels in the future.

Absolutely riveting. Superb storytelling, great characters and an environmental crisis — readers will hardly be able to wait for the second book in the trilogy.”— The Globe and Mail La storia della famiglia Bloom è triste, ma allo stesso tempo vuole insegnare ad andare avanti nonostante tutti gli ostacoli che possiamo trovare nel nostro cammino.

But now it's too late; the seeds are growing on their own, and going from one head to another… spreading like an epidemic. I think a big thing is that this book isn’t sure what it wants to be. Is it middle grade? Is it young adult? It leans more towards middle grade, and yet, has its moments of YA. And middle grade just doesn’t work for a story like this. It doesn’t feel as serious a problem because Oppel is unable to dive deep into the horrors of these plants, the fear and paranoia of the people. In a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world. Y yo no las he olvidado, señor Kevin Panetta. I read this book in Dutch but I want to write a review in English. I will be using the Dutch names though, as I have no clue what the characters English names are. I started this one yesterday evening before I went to sleep, and then, since my ear hurt like hell (I got a helix piercing yesterday) I couldn't sleep and decided to continue reading this book. Cue about 1 1/2 - 2 hours later and I was finished. I was done! What a book!
