About this deal

Previously Connie had given a recommendation to release a prisoner and that turned out to be the wrong decision on her part so when hounded she changed her name. When a mutilated body is found it becomes known that the corpse has one huge detail leading the police to Connie since her name was written on the body. What is Connie's connection to the victim? Is she the next target for the killer or was someone killing in her honor? I am absolutely thrilled to have added a new author to my bookshelf! I didn’t find out until the end that this was actually the third in the series of DI Sam Clayton books. It works perfectly as a standalone but now I am intrigued as to what I missed (off to hunt for them…) A woman is discovered murdered, impaled by her cello. Other members of the orchestra are targeted and an accidental death in the recent past is revealed to be murder too. Musical politics are at the centre of the case that Clayton and his team need to investigate. There is also a personal worry as Clayton’s girlfriend is in the choir associated with the orchestra… Play Dead was an excellent police procedural novel. The police team is at the heart of the book and their investigation takes place before our eyes. There is humour and banter as you would expect from a team and this gives a degree of realism without the hierarchical tensions that are often rife in police books. The police characters are well developed and author Anne Penketh has made Clayton is particularly easy to like. The suspects are all acting suspiciously so I had no idea who was responsible for the murders. All of the investigation loose ends are tied up by the end of the book whcih I personally find more satisfying than open ended novels. There is plenty of scope for more books as Clayton’s personal life has unfinished threads and Norwich is a big place, lots of potential crimes! Bad Sister is a completely enthralling psychological thriller, with everything in it that makes a book wonderful. Carrington has nailed it with this one, AGAIN! And the drinking game. I began to see phrases and punctuation marks show up mid "sentences". Some examples: "I swooned when I saw the most handsome 1-2-3 Cook man in my life." "I could not stop sobbing when '!' heard my sister screaming at me." I decided to turn this quirk into an excuse to down a shot of my favorite beverage. At the start of our journey through the three sisters lives, the scene is set in the prologue when we’re in 1993. Deely is 9, Devon is 13 and Maxie the eldest at 17. Straight away we are introduced to their childhood and the secret that determines how the sisters react to the world around them.

BAD SISTER | Kirkus Reviews

The emotional scars the sisters have mean they don’t fully participate in life. I loved the psychological and emotional journey that they take. We see them blossom from shells of themselves into the woman they were meant to be, understanding who they are and what they’re capable of. We read about each sister in separate chapters, which flow seamlessly from one sister to the next. For example, at the end of one of Dev’s chapters, she takes a phone call from Maxie which leads into Maxie’s chapter. As they continue with therapy, things start to happen to both ladies, but who is doing it and why?? What could possibly connect the two?As we meet Connie, there is obviously something that she is hiding, but what? Having recently move to the area to start up her own counselling business, she is starting to settle into her new life. Principal photography took place in 2021. Cast and crew were reported filming in and around Dublin at locations such as Sandycove, the Forty Foot, Howth, and Malahide in August. [6] They would also film in Belfast. [7] Title sequence [ edit ] Anne-Marie Duff as Grace Williams, the second eldest sister of the Garvey family. John Paul's wife and Blánaid's mother, she is controlled and routinely belittled by her husband, from whom she has minimal independence. Her relationship with her sisters becomes distant due to her continual need to defend her husband's poor behavior For me with Bad Sister I don't think the story is bad at all but I wasn't exactly hooked into it very well either. I found myself never really connecting with Connie as the story went on which sort of brings the book down for me no matter how many twists and turns the author tosses into the mix. In the end I just found this one sort of OK and never became overly excited with the story that unfolded. Many will probably love this one as it's one with many layers to it though so if a fan of this genre I'd say give it a try for yourself as it just wasn't one for me.

Falvey, Deirdre (11 August 2021). "Is that Sharon Horgan in the Forty Foot? 'Swim to her!' ". The Irish Times . Retrieved 23 March 2022. Bad Sister by Sam Carrington is a psychological thriller that was much like reading a couple of stories at once and trying to piece those together to get the overall plot. The biggest part of the story is told by alternating between Connie and the detective investigating the case, Lindsay Wade. There are also glimpses into the past woven in at times along with an unknown voice telling their story on occasion. Two bestselling authors imagine the boyhood of the man who became the legendary boxing icon Muhammad Ali.

Bad Sisters: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability Bad Sisters: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability

Bad Sister is written and constructed moderately well. Paired with Lucey's playful Sunday comics-style illustrations, the story takes a resonant dive into the insular world of children – especially siblings. However, some of the actions that the parents take are rather questionable – even in their day and time. Furthermore, her prosopagnosia is mentioned once and never again – as it was no big deal. There’s been much excitement as bloggers have been tweeting about reading Bad Sisters. Much enjoyment shared too. I loved the premise and structure for Bad Sister, alternating timelines always appeal to me and multiple narrators that are done well are fun and Carrington nailed both aspects. This was an extremely fast paced and edge of your seat type of read from an author I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on.This is told from the perspectives of Connie, DI Wade and an unknown narrator from the past. The blend of these three narratives made this read part police procedural and part psychological thriller with a dash of something sinister as well, I loved the merging of genres and it was executed seamlessly. DI Wade first made her appearance in Carrington’s debut, Saving Sophie and it was fantastic learning a bit more about her this time around. Connie was the type of character that you’re not quite sure about, her history is sketchy and I often wondered exactly how reliable she was which really kept me on my toes. The narrative seed is a deceptively simple one: three sisters who dragged themselves up from dirt poor nothings mostly by virtue of the eldest's uncompromising drive and skill are now living lives so far removed from their beginnings that it seems like that life belonged to other people. The eldest runs a huge business and is married to an upwardly moving politician, moving through the elite of London society. The middle child is a beautiful and curvy television cooking celebrity, happily married to a footballer who is a wall of muscled handsomeness, also living in London. The youngest is the oft-photographed and genuinely gorgeous girlfriend of a hot television star living in L.A. I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Lovebookstours as part of the book tour. Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is an absolute joy of a show. Did I just call a show about a group of sisters trying to kill their brother-in-law a joy? Yes, yes I did. It’s a high stakes feeling show without actually being high stakes, so it’s perfect during our very stressful current times. What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder. Ramachandran, Naman (28 March 2023).
