It’s sort of hard to judge this book, it being the first in a trilogy, because obviously I don’t know what might be revealed and what might be tied up in the next two books. But, hey, I’m going to give it a go anyway! With the string trailing behind him, Theseus made his way through the labyrinth, found the Minotaur and defeated the beast. He escaped Crete with the children and Princess Ariadne, but then left the princess on the island of Naxos, halfway to Athens!

Shadow is the first in The Legendeer trilogy, and while I haven’t read the second and third books, I think I can see where we’re going. From a literary point of view, I have to say that Shadow isn’t particularly thrilling – it’s fairly standard Young Adult ‘young man coming to terms with his identity and this whole growing up thing and how he feels about his parents and adolescence and not fitting in and STUFF’, which is all good standard material and themes, but I don’t think the writing is strong enough to make it have an appeal beyond its target audience.
