The only reason I’m giving it 4/5 stars is because I wish the ending was drawn out longer. It felt cut off in a way and didn’t feel as if it got the attention it deserved. As a reader, I felt as if we didn’t get enough time to see how everything played out and I without spoiling, I will say, I wish the final final conflict was hinted at more throughout the book. It just felt rushed. Plus I wanted more from the epilogue. More explanation on how everything worked out and how things were going. There were tears in her eyes though, and she promised it would only hurt for a little. But that’s the thing about abuse, I guess. The pain always lasts even after the bruises fade.” I love the way Yasmin snaps in the end, I wasn't expecting it- but after everything she went through it's understandable.and her stupidity shone when she gets a messge from an unknown number telling her to come to Egypt and she does!!! Although I have to be honest, the age gap kind of put me off at the beginning of the book but I got used to it over time and the rest was obviously everything!! I read the three before and though I hated Hooked (not because the book itself was bad but because of how doormat Wendy was) but loved Scarred and Wretched for the reason that made me hate Hooked - they had badass female leads
one of the things thats sorta become a pattern in these books is that i noticed the H tends to change drastically for their h by the end of the book, which makes it turn from dark to sappy/cringey. like, at first youre presented with this morally grey H. then they meet their h and turn all cheesy & mushy. 🙄 the third act conflict also always has them outsmarted & surrendering to their enemies to save the h. its supposed to be heroic, but i found it rather undignified (the way they did it). i mean, i wanted these antiheroes to be formidable, undefeated, and always save the day (by being smart, cunning, and in control). i wanted them to want to have their cake and eat it too lol. And when I thought I figured out the villain, it couldn't get more surprising but I should see it coming. Not going to give any spoilers here ;)The 4th installment of this stand alone series follows Yasim and Julian and let me say this…..Julian is my Italian king i love that man so damn much. Inspired by Aladdin like always with this series I just adored all the Easter eggs. This book also has some of my favorite tropes with the age gap, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage and I just ATE IT UP! I think after the halfway point this book really takes off and it has one of the best spicy scenes in the series. I mean the coffee table?!?! 🥵 EMILY NEVER MISSES and this is a MUST for my dark romance peeps. Holy shit was this amazing!! I absolutely understand why this is people’s favourite!! Like the tension?!?! The slow burn?!?! THE SMUT?????!!!!!! A valuable advice, you should read the Never After series after revisiting the fairytales it was inspired by. Welcome to Shh... I absolutely devoured any part where they were together. And don’t get me started on the ending of the book. Julian was willing to give up the thing he has been searching for his whole life for her! This is one of the best enemies to lovers I’ve ever read.
