About this deal

I can honestly say my jaw was gaping for the entire sequence, all the way from the moment when I realized he was going to carry the device out, step by step, to the end.

Khoury, George (2016). Comic Book Fever: A Celebration of Comics: 1976-1986. Raleigh, North Carolina: TwoMorrows Publishing. p.182. ISBN 978-1-60549-063-2.Ronin is, despite all this, a very good-looking comic. Some of the credit for this goes to DC’s production department and printers (and to Miller for insisting that it be done this way), but a large part goes to the colorist Lynn Varley. On the evidence of Ronin, Varley is, quite simply, the best colorist in American comics. Most other colorists have, when confronted with the full process separations, tried to do the artist’s job for him by playing around with modeling and airbrush effects, while ignoring the fact that the greatest benefit of the full process is the acquisition is a more varied, and therefore subtler, palette. Frank Miller Presents | RONIN: Book II

Manning, Matthew K. "1990s" in Gilbert (2008), p. 253: "Frank Miller made his triumphant return to Elektra, the character he breathed life into and then subsequently snuffed out, with the graphic novel Elektra Lives Again." Miller was widely criticized after the comic’s release for his misinformed and highly offensive portrayal of Muslims, and with good reason: Islam is depicted throughout “Holy Terror” as primitive and archaic, and its followers are treated with undisguised contempt. No distinction is made between Al-Qaeda and the 1.6 billion Muslims living peacefully worldwide -- to Miller, they’re all just maniacal lunatics named Mohammed who scream “Jihad!” a lot before blowing stuff up. That’s not only a profoundly messed-up worldview, but a weak basis for a cohesive and well-developed narrative. No wonder it was so unpopular! Cronin, Brian (November 24, 2015). Green, Karen (December 3, 2010). "Into the Valley of Death?". ComiXology. Archived from the original on October 20, 2011 . Retrieved November 25, 2011. It's like something out of Hollywood, right? Hollywood thought so, too. They made a movie in 1962 called The 300 Spartans, which 5-year-old Frank Miller saw in the theater, and it had a powerful influence on him. Frank Miller at the Grand Comics Database. NOTE: A different artist named Frank Miller was active in the 1940s. He died December 3, 1949. Ronin is a real headscratcher for me. There are things I genuinely like about it; some of the art given Varley's style is beautiful and aspects of the story and themes are interesting and hit my switches. The plot feels like the sort of thing that is better to just roll with than to ask actual deeper questions but that doesn't diminish it for me. But at the same time, the artwork can look real grotty, the characters outside of Casey are forgettable and the ending is a slap in the face. Three stars is what I give it, but that doesn't even convey the confusion I feel about this title. Superman #400: "The Living Legends of Superman" (a, with Elliot S.
