About this deal

The level of peril and tension is just perfect for lower Middle-Grade, although the mad-cap comedy and brilliant inventions will ensure this appeals to older readers too! Leonora is smart, resourceful and very relatable main character - and a tech-y genius, which is always a plus (more Girl-In-STEM please!!) The ending of the book wraps up the main adventure nicely, while leaving threads hanging for a sequel kids will chomping at the bit to read! I've adored this e-ARC, and cannot WAIT for my science-obsessed 8yo to read the physical book when it comes out in a couple of weeks. Opening scene: a dramatic chase at the luxurious Golden Pagoda Hotel, where Mr Penguin, the dapper Penguin detective and his team Edith, Gordon and Colin manage to recover a rare artefact from the hands of extremely villainous baddies. But what is this strange stone, and why does Professor Brace-Girdle at Cityville University want it so badly? Still, it’s not for Mr Penguin to ponder: as a paid adventurer, he just does what his clients request.

Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.)? Leonora has to enter – it’s her best-ever chance to finally stop Luther’s dangerous games! But she can’t enter as herself – he’ll never allow that – so she’ll need a foolproof disguise, and a brilliant idea for a winning invention… Ladybird, Puffin and Penguin are imprints of Penguin Random House UK. Across their extensive list, we believe there is a story for every child, everywhere.

When Princess Minna learns that her neighbour, Prince Welling-Tunboot, has fallen under a sleeping spell cast by a bad fairy, she is keen to help. He must be woken before sunset, or he will never wake again. Princess Minna summons her dragon Lorenzo, and flies to the enchanted forest to rescue the prince. But with several distractions along the way, will she… I loved Leonora! What a fabulous and fun character, and a joy to read. An inspirational character for young readers. This clever story within a story teaches important lessons about perspective as well as a variety of literary and drawing techniques. From sugar gliders to red-lipped batfish, this collection of strange and unusual animals from around the world is an enjoyable factfile with lovely illustrations and an amusing read thanks to its rogue narrator, who shares jokey facts and silly names for each animal. It has a brilliantly diverse cast of characters, that are so much fun, and are really brought to life with their dialogue, actions and gorgeous illustrations by Gladys Jose. Here's a round-up of new children's books from the last year (2022), which we think any child aged 6 to 7 years will love. Leonora Bolt makes amazing gadgets from any old junk. And her inventions have already stopped villainous Uncle Luther TWICE, though she hasn't rescued her super-scientist parents from him - yet. Why are dogs domesticated? Why are sweets bad for you? These, and 364 other questions (including an extra one for a leap year), were sent to Molly Oldfield for her children's podcast Everything Under The Sun, and are answered in one extremely helpful book.

Really fun story about an amazing inventor who is being exploited by her cruel uncle and held captive on Crabby Island. Merman Nen loves to explore the ocean but his heart feels empty. One night, a lonely fishman called Ernest hears his song and the pair strike upan affectionate relationship.A tender tale of love and acceptance, with lyrical text and atmospheric illustrations. Alex T Smith’s second book in the charming and hilarious Mr Penguin series is a plunging plane-ride of action and excitement with a very British sensibility that will delight fans of funny illustrated books. Leonora Bolt Secret Inventor is an entertaining STEM-themed narrative and a great story choice for Year 3 and above. The book follows a young female scientist named Leonora, who is passionate about creating new and ingenious inventions to solve the problems of those around her. Gladys Jose’s illustrations enhance the storytelling experience, as does the good dose of humour woven through the narrative. Gladys Jose is an illustrator and storyteller. She graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2012, where she earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts degree, specializing in graphic design. Books. But when Mr Penguin’s plane accidentally crash-lands near to a mysterious fortress, the game is afoot: will he and his colleagues be able to solve the mystery of the missing pets?
