About this deal

The AC10C1 is an extremely responsive amp with a crisp and bright tone, which is that Top Boost at work. Yet you can coax high-gain overdrive out of it with a twist of the dials. This adds up to impressive flexibility. The unusual 3x10" speaker complement of the Vox AC10RTwas reminiscent of the Fender 5E7 and 5G7 Bandmaster 3x10" amps from the late 1950's. Oh yeh, did I mention "loud"??? This amp has got volume to spare--totally beyond expectations--mind boggling volume. Plugging in, the first thing you notice is that smooth Vox sound. It might not have the drive, volume, or smoothness of a ’60s AC30, but it’s still lovely and instantly evocative. Plus it includes a key feature that helps your sound while making that noise. This is a great value for an amp with this much useable tone. If you gig, you probably have a PA - mic this thing up and enjoy those fat, jangly tones without blistering the front row. If you just need a practice amp that will go easier on your auditory health, this is a great choice. I keep one in my rehearsal room with a bunch of more expensive low wattage amps and this little Vox certainly holds its own. I used it last night just after using my go-to favorite '64 Fender Princeton and was, once again, surprised at how good this little dude sounds - and it's about 1/4 of the cost of the baby Fender.

For 2015 the AC10 has been resurrected in the form of the very affordable AC10C1 – AC10 Custom. This is essentially a smaller, more portable and lower powered version of the AC15, sitting between this and the low powered AC4 amplifiers. The design is simple with a single channel set-up powered by a pair of 12AX7 (ECC83) preamp tubes and a pair of EL84 power tubes providing 10W RMS of output through the custom 1x10 Celestion speaker. 10 Watts may not sound like a lot, but this is a very loud little amplifier, so Vox has very wisely included a Master Volume for this new model allowing you to crank the pre-amp stage while setting the power to a manageable level for whatever musical scenario you find yourself in. There is no Normal channel from the larger AC15, but the Top Boost circuit provides a wide range of clean and dirty tones so is all you really need here. This is a sweet and simple amp with fantastic tone. Once broken in, the speaker sounds great. It plays well with pedals as well. USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.

You will notice that the 2 power tubes (EL84) sit right behind the speaker magnet and the 2 preamp (12AX7 and its only 2 not 3 like the specs tell you) sit above the power tubes under the control panel. The only pedal that i had not sell was the sd1 Boss. I was not happy with it with my JCM 800 and other amps. The size - I got this amp exclusively because of its small size and low wattage, but make no mistake, this amp can keep up at a gig no problem. The size is absolutely perfect, especially because of the small car I drive (Honda Fit), and I have no problem toting this amp, my guitar, and my pedal board all in one trip from car to venue.

I bought this so I would not have to lug a heavy Marshall to practice. I ended up selling the Marshall because I was playing the Vox more.If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows: With a simple design like this it all comes down to tone as there are no bells and whistles to attract potential customers with, so how does the AC10C1 perform? Starting with a clean tone, the gain set low and master volume set high it is immediately apparent just how much this amp sparkles and chimes. Classic Vox cleans are present straight away with a load of dynamics that are so much fun to play. At these settings there is plenty of clean headroom from the master volume but you’d be hard pushed to play with a loud drummer on stage if clean tones are your thing or you need a clean amp for running pedals into. The design is focused on tone at a reasonable price. While the original was a dual-channel amp with four inputs, the revived version is a single-channel affair with one input. It’s based on two ECC83/12AX7 preamp tubes and a pair of EL84 output tubes in Class A design. This differs from the original’s six-tube setup, but it shares the fundamental preamp-output tubes. The Vox AC10RT was equipped with three Goodmans 10" stamped frame speakers with alnico magnets. An impedance value of 15Ω was imprinted on the rim of each speaker (see photo at left). As the trio of 10" 15Ω speakers was wired in parallel, a total load of 5Ω (15Ω÷ 3 = 5Ω) was presented to the output stage of the amplifier.
