Psyllium is considered safe for long-term use because fiber is not absorbed by the body but passes through the digestive system. For this reason, psyllium is one of the safest long-term treatments for constipation. That being the case, psyllium is often the main ingredient in fiber supplements that support digestion health and reduces constipation.
