About this deal

As Therapy?'s fourth decade finally gets underway in earnest, sixteenth album 'Hard Cold Fire', written and pre-produced during an unprecedented time for music, is hefty, compact, and accessible, a distillation of everything that has made them what they are - hewn from County Antrim basalt, still possessed of their stoicism, but casting a renewed focus on catharsis and healing. Hard Cold Fire” is out on the 5th of May via Marshall Records and it is a must-have for any Therapy? Fan, the drive and passion are still there after thirty-odd years. There's a tension there where it's almost like people think these could be the 'end days' and so they're all fighting for their own little patch. It's disgusting. When we began to rehearse the songs, we realised there was an empathetic quality to them. We wanted to make something that was a bit more relatable, and less standoffish and claustrophobic – which we have a history of, and it stands in places – but we wanted to make something more approachable and open.”

In fact ‘Hard Cold Fire’ is the band’s 16 th album given them an average output of an album just over every two years. Over such a sustained period this is a remarkable achievement, particularly over the past decade during which most acts of a similar ilk would have long slowed down. But I knew that I wanted to keep playing the guitar, that was important, so I had a little routine, and I also knew I wanted to write new material, but I didn't want it to be about Covid, while I was living through it. I was very, very positive, and I know the other two lads were quite similar.” Ozuna, Hernan (10 March 2023). "Therapy? announces new album Hard Cold Fire, drops "Joy" video". Chaoszine . Retrieved 27 May 2023. Were Ozzy & Therapy? really in the studio together for "Iron Man"? on Wall of Mouths". Teethgrinder.com . Retrieved 27 June 2016. People I know who have wives or partners from the EU, they have said almost exactly the same thing to me - and I don't know where it's going to end. I sort of thought, post-Covid, that things might actually get better. But it's actually gone the other way.On 10 May 2018, the band announced via their social media that they signed a worldwide record deal with Marshall Records: Their debut A&M record, Nurse, made its way into UK's Top 40 Album Chart in November 1992, while lead single " Teethgrinder" became the band's first Top 40 single in both the UK [5] and Ireland. [6] The grunge revolution was in full swing, with US outfit Nirvana leading the way. Predictably, the media began to draw comparisons between the two bands. The heavy guitars and inventive drumming that was swiftly becoming Therapy?'s trademark led them more towards the grunge camp than away from it. The fabulously named Poundland Of Hope And Glory is Therapy? at their most instant, caffeine bomb addictive – it sneers at you with head-snapping tuneage. Right after it, Ugly combines frontman Andy Cairns’ almost uncomfortably self-effacing lyrics - ' I punch myself in the face ’cause I’m unworthy of your love' – with the type of hook delivery that most people love about his anything-but-ugly talent. To Disappear, Woe and Joy are other examples of songs that hit deep and hard, dark feelings explored, challenged and explosively let go. Yes, there’s a few like Bewildered Herd that don’t achieve the musical highs to match Andy’s captivating words, but this sense of propulsion from a band so lived-in as Therapy? is still some achievement. The serrated, chugging riffage, churning low-end and propulsive rhythms that are hallmarks of the band’s sound are all present and correct, but met with a new-found sense of resolution and release, as most readily displayed on the one-two punch of their first single, ‘Joy’.
