About this deal

If you want to make the most of your carp and coarse fishing, then you should definitely invest in a bivvy, and give yourself practical, all-weather comfort and protection for those overnight sessions. Bivviesgive you the space you need and the shelter you want, in one convenient angling option that offers go-anywhere capability. The Quest Defier Bivvy MK2 is designed with high-quality materials, ensuring durability and longevity. Its built-in groundsheet provides an added layer of protection against moisture and insects, keeping you comfortable and dry throughout your session. The Sonik SK-Tek 2-man bivvy is a fantastic lightweight shelter for a great price. If you’re on a bit of a budget, this is a fantastic shelter. I haven’t tried this shelter but I love Sonik’s Xtractor Rod series and their SKX Bite Alarms. They are a “budget brand” and not all of their products are fantastic, but they definitely offer quality without the need to break the bank, as long as you know where to look.

The Avid HQ Dual Layer bivvy is ideal for the angling pair that wants a shelter with plenty of room that’ll keep them comfortable year-round. I’ve tried out the one-man version of this shelter and was thoroughly impressed. I loved the ventilation, the dual layer system without the need for a “clumsy overwrap,” and how adaptable the shelter is for different weather conditions. This is further boosted by the inclusion of a rear zippered vent that can be opened or closed as you wish. It has a fully enclosed twin-skin inner capsule that helps reduce condensation and maintain internal air temperatures. It also has a stitched-in groundsheet to keep you completely sealed in from groundwater and floor-dwelling bugs. This bivvy definitely isn’t cheap but if you’re looking for a large 2-man shelter for continental or long-session UK angling, this is a fantastic choice. The peak, although small, provides plenty of protection from the rain when you’re sitting inside with the door open letterbox style. The peak’s front support bar helps cast water away during storms so you don’t end up with a big puddle outside the doorway.

It has a large porch and removable front panel that can be configured in several different ways depending on your style of fishing, the season, and the weather conditions. It’s also compatible with the Escape XF2 porch extension which creates a large usable space on the front of the shelter for long holiday-style sessions. If you want a 2-man bivvy to accommodate more kit and provide a bit more comfort for holiday-style sessions, you may be concerned about weight. In this case, I’d opt for something such as the Trakker SLX or Sonik SK-TEK. These bivvies have a large internal space but cut down weight by using fewer ribs and lightweight fabric. The main attraction of the Ascent over the HQ Dual Layer is definitely the price. This comes in at around half the price of the HQ. It’s also lighter (without the overwrap).

You get a full heavyweight groundsheet, mozzy mesh panel for the door, two storm poles and a decent carry bag, which is much better than forking out extra cash for the additional add ons. The Frontier is extremely easy to assemble and goes up in minutes. If you’re like me and favour lightweight brolly systems that go up in seconds, then this bivvy could be the shelter that sways you away from brollies. The Titan 1 Mk 2 boasts a unique tension bar system with a reverse clip from the Titan Camo that creates a storm peak, effectively eliminating water pooling even during torrential rainfalls.

For easy transportation, it comes with a carry bag so you can take your bivvy anywhere without hassle. Overall, this is a great bivvy for the solo angler that wants something lightweight and compact with a good amount of room inside. If you’re on a budget but want to get the most from your investment, the SK-Tek bivvy is an excellent choice. This bivvy is super impressive in my opinion. It’s constructed from a breathable 10,000 hh fabric and comes complete with an attached internal vapour shield to help reduce condensation. And, if that wasn’t enough, it also comes with an overwrap for increased thermal retention and condensation reductions on cold winter sessions.

Sonik have opted for a reliable 10,000mm HH made of cloudbaseTM fabric which is tough, light, and extremely waterproof. Overall, the JRC Defender is a bivvy that doesn’t “wow” you but it’s extremely fair to the wallet and will serve you well through the warmer months if you’re looking for a fair-weather shelter for two. A glance around the bivvy shows a couple of rod retaining straps– standard on most bivvies these days, and the pegging points looked rather solid too. The twin-skin inner capsule is fully enclosed, increasing air flow throughout which reduces any condensation that can build up inside. For example, those who predominantly fish short sessions may prioritize convenience features such as easy assembly/disassembly over more extensive internal space found in larger models designed for longer stays on the bank. The range works together seamlessly to provide a smart and affordable solution for the most demanding angler. SK-TEK Bivvy Specs Adding an overwrap to your bivvy gives you the additional warmth and damp-proof protection you need to keep fishing during the cooler autumn and winter months, when carp water landscapes can be at their most stunning, and the art of angling comes into its own, as you try and tempt sluggish fish into showing some action. Firstly, when cleaning your bivvy, always remove any mud or dirt with a soft brush while ensuring not to damage the fabric material or seams of your bivvy. Weighing in at 10.4 kg, this bivvy is extremely lightweight, considering it’ll accommodate two bedchairs. Now, this shelter certainly isn’t as big as some of the others on the list but if you and your angling partner want to be a bit more mobile, this could be the bivvy for you. Ventilation is all well and good, but unless you can leave the vents open in the rain you’ll still get condensation inside the bivvy when you’re zipped in. Dual-layer bivvies, overwraps, or other means to keep the rain out while letting air in will allow you to keep air circulating no matter the conditions.
