About this deal

So, that’s the first way in which enemies react. But, that’s not the only way. Remember I said even moving can be fraught with danger? Well, read on… Built on the survival horror engine of the previous two board games, it introduces a slew of new and updated mechanics to keep you on your toes.

That’s been your overview of how to play Resident Evil: The Board Game, but stay tuned. We’ve got new mechanics to explore and bosses to encounter in future articles coming very soon. Think of it this way: Anything you’d need to press a button on your console’s controller to do is an action. The B-Files Expansion is where you’ll face the terrifying and relentless pursuit of Mr X, and the Survival Horror Expansion allows players take on the other survivors of Raccoon City and try to complete their own selfish goals in a far more competitive manner! Player interaction The B-Files Expansion for Resident Evil 2: The Board Game gives you the other side of the story to the core’s, centring entirely around the adventure from the other side of the police car. You inevitably go through Raccoon Police Department, the sewer systems and Underground Laboratory. All through which your new admirer is hot on your trail. There are fewer scenarios in this expansion, but don’t think the Resident Evil universe has given you a break because of this! You’ll still have the disgustingly hideous monstrosities from the core game to deal with, alongside Birkin Stage 3, who is as deadly as ever. If you’re new to Resident Evil board games, today’s post is for you. But don’t worry, veterans. I’ll do my best to entertain you, too!Once you’ve performed your four actions (or skipped actions, if you like to live dangerously), it’s time for the reaction phase. Reaction Phase Following the highly-rated Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2021) board games, Resident Evil: The Board Game (2023) brings the sinister Spencer Mansion to the tabletop in a terrifying open world campaign. An unlikely presence holds this place in its thrall — a plant grown to monstrous size, its lethal vines trailing through the building just waiting to lash out. And beneath the simple structure, a deadly aquatic predator prowls the flooded halls, searching for any sign of life…

On top of that, we had full ammo from the free choice set-up. If you are going to include it in a free play scenario, I’d seriously recommend you don’t allow it to leave its spawn room. In the campaign however, the Giant Moth is far more intimidating as you’ll be going in half prepared and suffering from everything you’ve previously experienced, as was intended! Component Quality and Replay-ability If you’re new to tabletop survival horror, welcome — you’re in good company! There’s already a thriving Resident Evil tabletop community, which you can join right here . So, what are these key pillars? What makes Resident Evil’s unique brand of survival horror so compelling? Once we’d identified those, we could start building our game’s core engine. A thud from the next room might put your character on edge, and make them not want to leave their current tile. Another card might suggest corpses are especially sinister in the low light, and apply additional modifiers to the characters creeping around them.

So, Are You Ready to Step Inside the Mansion?

And speaking of inventories, your character can only carry a limited number of items. That means they need to either store items in item boxes, or trade with other players before going out foraging. The models for both the Giant Moth and crow enemies are fantastic. I’d even go as far as to say they’re better quality than the models from the core game, and they’re pretty spot on already! The consideration for the mechanics behind both new enemies is well thought out, with neither being in a hurry to kill you but at the same time both being a constant threat. Being young was awkward, when you weren't hiding behind the controller that is! Remember not knowing how to talk to someone you liked? So you'd awkwardly sort of be around them and existed continually, never making progress or effort to let them know you were there? The T-00 Tyrant doesn't. He has no fear. No reservations. He's a successful go-getter and a man on a mission. He knows what he wants, and he wants you. (Dead!)
