a b Enright, Nancy (2007). "Tolkien's Females and the Defining of Power". Renascence. 59 (2): 93–108. doi: 10.5840/renascence200759213. ISSN 0034-4346. Arwen was born in TA 241, to Lord Elrond and Lady Celebrían of Rivendell. [1] Like her father and brothers, she had the right to choose between immortality or mortal life. She lived most of her life in Rivendell and Lothlórien interchangeably. a b Derdzinski, Ryszard, ed. (2002). "Language in the Lord of the Rings movie". Archived from the original on 11 August 2002 . Retrieved 2 December 2012. Set with 4x (10x5mm) Marquise, 2x (7x5mm) pear & 1x (9x6mm) pear Cubic Zirconia, giving the qualities of both a star and a flower. The person who mentioned it as a gift to Frodo is right on the money. Someone read the book, great! In the book, it is described as "a white gem like a star that lay upon her breast hanging upon a silver chain". This is clearly the Evenstar pendant (Evenstar being what her people lovingly called her).

Sauron uses the Palantír to show Aragorn a dying Arwen (a scene from the future) in the hope of weakening his resolve. [10] In the film adaptation of The Two Towers, the injured Aragorn is revived by a dream or vision of Arwen, who kisses him and asks the Valar to protect him. [8] Arwen was described to be the most beautiful of the last generation of High Elves in Middle-earth, and was even said to bear a remarkable resemblance to her ancestress, Lúthien. J.R.R. Tolkien described Arwen as following: Arwen first appears in the text of The Lord of the Rings in Rivendell, shortly after Frodo Baggins wakes in the House of Elrond: she sits beside her father at the celebratory feast. [T 4] When the Fellowship of the Ring comes to Lothlórien, Aragorn remembers his earlier meeting with Arwen and pauses in reverence. [T 5]Tolkien, J. R. R. (1977). Christopher Tolkien (ed.). The Silmarillion. Boston: Houghton Mifflin. ISBN 978-0-395-25730-2. Arwen eventually became Queen of the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor when she married Aragorn, who was of the line of the Kings of Arnor. Hatcher, Melissa McCrory (2007). "Finding Woman's Role in The Lord of the Rings". Mythlore. 25 (3). article 5.

And she stood then as still as a white tree, looking into the West, and at last she said: "I will cleave to you, Dúnadan, and turn from the Twilight. Yet there lies the land of my people and the long home of all my kin." She loved her father dearly.During Aragorn's twentieth year, he met Arwen for the first time in Rivendell, where he lived under Elrond's protection. Arwen, then over 2700 years old, had recently returned to her father's home after living for a while with her grandmother Galadriel in Lórien. Aragorn fell in love with Arwen at first sight, and at first mistook her for Lúthien, thinking he had fallen into a dream. [4] In the 1981 BBC radio serialisation of The Lord of the Rings, Arwen is voiced by Sonia Fraser. [20] In the musical theatre adaptation of Lord of the Rings, Arwen, played in London in 2007 by Rosalie Craig, sings the Prologue, and three musical numbers: "The Song of Hope", "Star of Eärendil" (with the Elven chorus) and "The Song of Hope Duet" (with Aragorn). [21] [22] In the 2009 fan film The Hunt for Gollum, Arwen is played by Rita Ramnani. [23] [24] As a Half-elven, Arwen had the choice between mortal life and eternal life as an immortal elf. She chose to become mortal and marry Aragorn, the human king of Gondor. Their love was a central theme in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was based on the deep and enduring love shared by Lúthien and Beren, two characters from earlier in Tolkien's mythology. Leibiger, Carol A. (2013) [2007]. "Women in Tolkien's Works". In Drout, Michael D. C. (ed.). The J. R. R. Tolkien Encyclopedia. Routledge. pp.710–712. ISBN 978-0-415-86511-1.

Gandalf brings the stone to Middle-earth as a sign that the Valar had not forsaken that land. He gives it to Galadriel but prophesies that "...it is not for you to possess. You shall hand it on when the time comes. For before you grow weary, and at last forsake Middle-earth one shall come who is to receive it, and his name shall be that of the stone: Elessar he shall be called." [1] Riel Radio Theatre — The Lord of the Rings, Episode 2". Radioriel. 15 January 2009. Archived from the original on 15 January 2020 . Retrieved 18 May 2020. Arwen played a small but important role in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. She met Aragorn while he was travelling in Rivendell and they fell in love. She later helped Frodo and the other hobbits escape from the Nazgul by summoning a flood to sweep them away. About thirty years later, the two were reunited in Lórien, where Arwen reciprocated Aragorn's love and they "plighted their troth" (promised themselves to each other) on the mound of Cerin Amroth, Arwen choosing to become mortal and to stay in Middle-earth with Aragorn, and giving up the chance to sail over the sea and live forever in the Blessed Realm. Nonetheless Elrond would not permit the two to marry until Aragorn had taken the thrones of Arnor and Gondor, the price for Arwen's abandonment of immortality. Arwen never broke faith with Aragorn, even when he went to war. While the War in the South raged on, Arwen wove a banner for Aragorn, which would become his standard after he became king.

An LOTR Keepsake

In The Lord of the Rings Online, Arwen can be found in a gazebo overlooking the path from Rivendell into the Misty Mountains. Her roles in the game was initially small, and her only significant interaction with the player was the passing of Elessar's banner that she made for Aragorn and bid the player to deliver to Halbarad. After the downfall of Sauron, her prominence increases as Elrond and his household travel to Minas Tirith for her wedding. On their way towards Lothlórien from the lands of the Beornings, Arwen asks her father to visit the cave in which her mother Celebrían was tormented by Orcs before being rescued. She later discusses that experience with Lady Galadriel.

In The Two Towers film, Arwen was originally supposed to appear with the host of Elves and fight at Helm's Deep alongside Aragorn. This was later cut from the film. Other appearances As related in The History of Middle-earth, Tolkien conceived the character of "Elrond's daughter" late in the writing. [T 13] [T 14] Prior to this, he had considered having Aragorn marry Éowyn of the royal family of Rohan. [T 15] [2]
