The rest of the cast is not as well developed, but they do all make a good impression. Most of the criminals are nicely distinct in attitude and motivation, making them at least interesting to watch. After he gets his pardon, he wants to get revenge, not by killing the leader, but by cutting his mansion in half. I liked that its straight to the point, has little filler scenes and just straight up introduced the character and his drive to be a "person". I already liked Gabimaru. He's a bit funny and quirky but he's super powerful despite his small size. The setting is during the time where ninjas and samurais are, and it made the story extra fun. For now, I would say I'm actually invested in the series. Honestly can't wait for the rest of the volumes but definitely can't binge read this, cause its a tad heavy.

All in all I was more drawn in than I thought I would be, and whilst I wouldn't necessarily continue to series, I can see this being very popular with it's target demographic. Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku initially hooked me with introduction of Gabimaru the Hollow, who’s painted as this heartless, bloodthirsty killer, but you learn deep down he’s anything but. It is true that he is fearsome and will cut down any and all who stand in his way, but only when provoked or put in a position where it’s kill or be killed. That is then of course paralleled with the way he kills, which is pretty gruesome to say the least. There’s a stone-cold nature to Gabimaru that has been engrained in him due to his upbringing, but that coldness within him is thawing thanks to the warmth and love he feels for his wife. He’s offered a second chance and you really push for him to get the normal life he desires.
