In the beginning, the translations were difficult to follow while LOLScans was the main group working on it, however after chapter 28 someone else takes over, though I don't know who it is. They're scans were much better quality, and it was then easier to understand what was going on. The setting was nice, too -- the story occurs mostly during winter/Christmas, additionally with very minute character interactions, so it's very soft and quiet. Mixed with the plot's slight darkness, it created a really great atmosphere that played on the loneliness of Anzai and Tsukasa, as well as their time together. (I feel like the Japanese just really understand this concept of "winter loneliness" so well! I notice a lot of mangaka use winter in their stories in this way, and it's one of my favorites styles.) The action sequences always seemed to come at the end of each chapter, so we were allowed some downtime in-between to appreciate the "stillness" of the world. They’ve been producing anime since 1951, and some of their best works are Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, Sakamoto Desu Ga?, and Azumanga Daioh. I sincerely liked the different concept of devils/vampires in this manga, I liked how much the author was trying persaude the reader that no two people are entirely different, it's like a lesson in not judging a book by it's cover, or in the case what you look like. This is an urban fantasy in the vein of Tokyo Ghoul, but not nearly as horror-like. So if you like the idea of TG but can’t do all the crazy and gore, this might be more your speed. (No judging! We like what we like, peeps. That said, the cover art for Tokyo Ghoul is hard to beat.)I have never personally heard of the new studio Platinum Vision before, most particularly they made Servamp (with Brain’s Base) and the spin-off from the Saiyuuki Reload series, but this anime just proves that just like many 2nd or 3rd rate studios, it falls in the category of being mediocre and bad. The manga-to-anime adaptation…is quite frankly nothing more of good. I get it that the producers tried their best to replicate the manga, but try as hard as they can, it still falls short. That was 99% of the reason I went for this manga: the dude on the cover looks like he's about to serenade you about how much he wants to drink your blood. *swoon* Devils Line is a series that explores deep themes such as the duality of human nature, the conflict between good and evil, and the difficulty of finding one’s place in a world that rejects us. As I said, it's basically a darker TWILIGHT, but I liked TWILIGHT even as I wished it were darker, so this ended up working out for me just fine. I probably would have liked it more when I was younger, as both characters look very young. Tsukasa looks like she could be in middle school and Anzai kind of reminds me of "L" from Death Note with higher cheekbones.
