About this deal

Spawn began a resurgence in popularity as the title approached its 300th issue, with the title once again becoming a fixture in Diamond's Top 100. The 300th issue made Spawn the longest-running independent comic book series of all time. [16]

I think there's always a time to do crossovers, especially intercompany ones,” notes McFarlane. “I think they're fun for the fans. I think we all sort of have our wish lists of what we could do.” McFarlane, Todd (November 2012). The Art of Todd McFarlane: The Devil's in the Details. Todd McFarlane Productions/Image Comics. How do you feel about Frank Miller’s Batman? For me, Frank Miller’s take on Batman is always an enjoyable experience, yes even the much reviled “All Star Batman & Robin”, but if you especially hate the Goddamn Batman, you’re not going to like this one either. I like Miller’s take on the character because he writes him as a sociopathic rage machine in a cowl - no one else writes Batman in this distinct way and I think it’s hilarious. McFarlane, Todd (7 May 2019). Spawn: Origins Volume 1 (New Printing). Image Comics. ISBN 978-1534313897. To be clear, I don’t mind “edgy”, and I don’t mind dark themes in stories, but there’s a limit, and a moment when to have it. Miller simply disposes of a generic-stereotypical character to perform the role of Batman, almost as an excuse to have the two characters fighting each other just to make some cool panels, which leads me to my second issue: the art. McFarlane is, perhaps, one of the most emblematic artists that came out of the 90s, and his career only proved how much of an effective business man he is by exploiting his properties with such success, but when it comes to his artistic qualities, the guy is a hit and miss. Yes, he has crafted such iconic and memorable pieces of artwork for stuff such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’, and the first volumes in the ongoing ‘Spawn’ main series has some interesting designs that hasn’t aged that poorly, but other than that, his art only works as a reference, just to have way better artists continue his legacy. Two of the better ones that came to my mind are Greg Capullo, and Angel Medina, who had easily worked in the better arcs of the ‘Spawn’ series, or at least, in the better ones visually speaking.Todd, you've worked on Batman before in "Year Two," along with all of McFarlane Toys' Batman figures. Greg, you've been drawing Batman since at least 2011. What is the appeal of the Dark Knight to both of you as storytellers and artists? Johnson, Rich (19 June 2013). "Marvel Owns Angela – But No, Karen Gillan Won't Be Playing Her In Guardians Of The Galaxy". Bleeding Cool . Retrieved 19 June 2013. Spawn appears in Ready Player One. He appears as an avatar fighting the forces of IOI on Planet Doom during the final battle. [67]

Spawn: New Flesh Collection (December 2007)– contains issues 166–169, plus a short story from Image Holiday Special 2005 In addition, I think it’s fair to say many people reading Batman/Spawn have not been reading the monthly Spawn book. It just doesn’t have the same broad appeal. That’s where most of the inaccessibility comes from. Spawn’s continuity feels very intact in this story. For example, there is a lot of discussion about dead zones which I know were a hot topic in Spawn when I was reading it last year. The villains of this issue are the Court of Owls but they seem to have some sort of connection to Spawn and the Violator that I wasn’t even able to decode. At the time of the release of the live action film, Spawn appeared in several commercials for Taco Bell. Lee's Batman has certainly become one of the most recognizable incarnations of the character in all of pop culture, thanks to his work on books like Batman: Hush and the New 52 Justice League series. But Spawn is a character Lee has comparatively little experience drawing. We were curious how he approached the challenge of combining both characters into one image and making the more horror-influenced Spawn feel at home alongside the traditionally heroic Batman. Spawn: EndGame Collection (January 2011)– combines Endgame Vol 1 and 2 (issues 185–196 with some altered artwork)
