An Explanation of Riyadh al-Saliheen from the words of the Master of the Messengers. Translated by Sajad ibn AbdurRahman. The Qur’an and Sunnah Society: 1998. p. xvii, xviii) Obligation of Rulers to show Kindness to their Subjects, Advising them, Being Kind to them, Prohibition from cheating them, Being Harsh with them, Ignoring What Benefits Them and Their Needs Hence, I deemed it appropriate to compile an abridgement of authentic traditions, depicting a path for its master to tread upon towards the Hereafter. Acquiring manners and etiquettes, concealed and apparent. [In addition] to the inclusion of a provision for awakening a desire and providing a source of fear [impelling action]. [Incorporating] all the categories of manners and etiquettes for those treading upon this path. [Extracted] from the traditions pertaining to asceticism, the spiritual refinement of the soul, and the perfection of good character. the purification and treatment of the heart, and preservation of the limbs. The elimination of deviation and crookedness, in addition to other [matters] from [amongst] the objectives of the cognisant [TN – Those amongst creation who are acquainted with the objective].

The Merit of Providing something to the Person Observing Saum (Fasting) for breaking the Fast and the Virtue of Fasting Person who is fed at someones house and the Virtue of the Supplication of the one who eats for the who feeds him.The Prophet (SAW) has taught us the best of deeds are those that done consistently, even if they are small.

I hope that if [what is contained] in the book is executed, it [provides] an indicator [for the attentive] towards virtuous deeds and actions, and [provides] an obstacle for the individual [hindering his passage] towards the [various] categories of shameful deeds, and places of destruction. The Excellence of Observing Saum on the Day of ' Arafah, ' Ashura' and Tasu'a (i.e., 9th of Muharram)

Imam An Nawawi lived a short life of 28 years but during these years he provided the Ummah with some great books and compilations of Islamic knowledge. Some of his prestigious works include Commentary on Sahih Bukhari, Tahdhib-ul-Asma was-Sifat, Kitab-ul-Adhkar, At-Tibyan, Arba’een, Riyadh-us-Saliheen, Mukhtasar At-Tirmidhi, and Tabaqat Ash-Shafi’iyah. Imam An-Nawawi died at Nawa on the 24 th of Rajab 676 A.H. and he was buried in his home town. Ahadith in this compilation have been classified according to their strength. Imam An-Nawawi’s book has both strong and weak Ahadith though the collection is said to have a majority of strong Ahadith (Ahadith with credible chain of narrators) and the maximum number of weak Ahadith when compared to Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. According to Imam Albani’s introduction to Riyadh-us-Saliheen, the book has some 37 weak Ahadith. For Instance, Imam Albani, in his introduction to Riyadh-us-Saliheen, relates Hadith 67 as a weak Hadith. The Hadith in ‘The Book of Feeling Allaah’s observance’ in Riyadh-us-Saliheen is recorded this way: The love of such saints is a means to attain the Pleasure of Allah, and enmity (hatred and repulsion) with them is a cause of His serious displeasure and wrath. Imam Nawawi had an endless thirst for knowledge, which can be deduced from his daily practice of studies. He used to read twelve lessons daily and write explanations and commentaries of every lesson, all the while making important additions. Whatever book he read, he put down the marginal notes and explanations on that book. His intelligence, hard work, love, devotion, and absorption in his studies amazed his teachers and they became fond of him and began to praise and admire him. Abomination of Joining As-Salat (The Prayer) when the Food is ready and the self is craving for it or when one is in desperate need to answer the call of Nature ( al 'akhbathayn: micturition (urination) or defecation)

Inducement to the Witr Prayer and Clarification it is an Emphasised Sunnah and Clarification of its Time Undesirability of starting an optional Prayer after the announcement of Iqamah whether the prayer the optional prayer (being initiated by the person) is a sunnah of the prayer (whose Iqamah is being pronounced) or other than that. And I feel the author’s excuse, may Allah have mercy upon him, for these weak Ahadith falling into his work, despite his attempt to only relate authentic Ahadith in it, is due to his reliance, for the most part, on Imaam Tirmidhi’s rulings of hassan and saheeh and upon Abu Dawood’s remaining silent about the rulings of certain Ahadith . . .”

CHAPTER 38 (39). RIGHTS OF NEIGHBOURS

Abu Zakariyya Muḥyi al-Dīn Yaḥya Ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi was born at Nawā, a place near Damascus, in the suburb of the city of Howran, in 631 AH (1234 CE), and died forty-four years later in 676 AH (1278 CE). From a young age he showed signs of great intelligence, so his father resolved to arrange for his education. He studied in Damascus from the age of 18 and after making the pilgrimage in 1253 he settled there as a private scholar.

Umaiyyah bin Makhshi (May Allaah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allaah (SALL ALLAAHU ‘ALAYHI WA SALLAM) was sitting while a man was eating food. That man did not mention the Name of Allaah (before commencing to eat) till only a morsel of food was left. When he raised it to his mouth, he said: “Bismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu (With the Name of Allaah, in the beginning and in the end).” Messenger of Allaah (SALL ALLAAHU ‘ALAYHI WA SALLAM) smiled at this and said, “ Satan had been eating with him but when he mentioned the Name of Allaah, Satan vomited all that was in his stomach.” Undesirability of Drinking Directly from the Mouth of a Water-Skin and Clarification that it is not Haram but Disliked Listening Attentively To One Sitting with You which is not Haram and Listening carefully to a Scholar or Preacher who attends a gathering Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه‏) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer.” It was asked, “Who is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “One whose neighbour does not feel safe from his evil.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]Prohibition of Carrying the Qur'an into the Land of Enemy i it is feare [ spelling?] that it will fall into the hands of the Enemy
