It is with great sadness that we report the death of Peter Sargenton August 9th. Peter was a life long supporter of the OSA and was President in 1975. Whether on a distant lonely planet, or deep inside an asteroid field, you control every aspect of building & running your station. Harvest nearby resources and use a wide range of tools to construct the ultimate station. Everything your station requires will be built and managed by you and your friends. In 1740, at the age of 50, Richardson wrote the first of three novels on which his fame depends. This was Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded . Richardson was encouraged in this venture by his friend and fellow Derbyshireman Charles Rivington, founder of the Rivington publishing house and forebear to a family who would go on to contribute no fewer than twelve Masters to The Stationers' Company. Rivington had discovered Richardson as a 13-year-old apprentice composing ardent love letters for fellow apprentices less gifted with words than himself.
He played an active part in our Company for nearly 50 years, becoming a Freeman in 1715, a Liveryman in 1722, and ultimately Master towards the end of his working life. We have received notice of the following bereavements: Peter Redman, Ivor Evans, Eric Bowman, Rod Dennison, Ray Eccles, Brother Donald Green, Keith Woodley and Adrian Constable (ex Teacher). Details will follow when known. 2021 DEATHS We received a message from David Davies on 16 February , informing us that Brian Harris (1951-1958) has died.Space is empty and the planets are unforgiving to human life. Build the most efficient systems you can by utilizing machines and programmable computers to develop automated systems. We are sorry to report that John Olerenshawwho taught Maths at Stationers’ from ‘61 to ’65 passed away October 16 thaged 81. Mary Hind has advised us that sadly Raymond Hind (1945-2021) died suddenly in November. Qualifying as a patent lawyer in the UK, Raymond later moved to Australia to practice. Mary has kindly provided an obituary and picture of Raymond. We are sad to learn of the death of Richard Hudson (1964-1971) on 19 th May,from his brother Alan. Richard was a loyal and long-standing member of the OSA and lived in Crouch End. He regularly attended St Mary with St George’s Church and the OSA Carol Service. Richard also enjoyed his visits to President’s Day at Botany Bay CC. He was also a Freeman of the Company and went to the ‘Cakes & Ale’ service most years.
We are sorry to report that Past Master Michael Pelham, who was a great friend of the Old Stationers’ died on 2 February. He was the Master of the Company during 2002/3 when Tony Mash was OSA President. Letters of condolence may be sent to his widow, Lady Lucy Pelham, at Old Way House, Beaulieu, Hampshire, SO42 7YL. Details of his memorial service, planned for the end of March, will be sent out in due course. Since 1893, Ryman® has been selling stationery supplies all over the UK. While the modern world would have been unimaginable to Henry J Ryman, we like to think we've carried on his legacy into the 21st century and beyond. As long as people need stationery, we’ll be supplying it. He added: "We have tried to do a lot but it's not enough for a few who seem to want to undermine our community and be hateful.It is with great sadness that we report the death of Simon Baynes,Robert Baynes son, who died in November. Simon was a member of the congregation at St Albans Cathedral.
