Soffit Boards –Soffit boards run across the underside of your roofline, with the purpose of protecting the underside of the rafter feet. The expanded core of the soffit is lightweight, whilst the highly polished surface acts as a seal to water damage. As box end construction is a highly technical job, we supply and fit all the materials required for it. This includes high-quality uPVC fascias and soffits, uPVC and aluminium gutters. H. Cut the fascia material to the correctly measured shape and size. It’s best to cut joints vertically if possible, as this helps minimise the risk of moisture seeping in. If you are cutting horizontally, make sure any joints are completely sealed. The purpose of a Box End is to further protect the timber rafters within your roof construction. It also reduces the number of joints that would appear on traditional timber roofline methods. Use conventional carpentry tools including fine toothed saws. Bargeboard –The bargeboard provides a decorative finish to the gable end of your home, sealing the end rafters and the verge. Once the box end is fitted into the corner moulding, measure and cut the return from your fascia board, and fit in place using plastic headed screws.
Asbestos –This is not a problem in new homes, however, any home built before the year 2000 could contain asbestos which was incredibly commonly used in homes built before the 1990s. Asbestos was used as a fire retardant, but it is an incredibly dangerous substance, and prolonged exposure to asbestos fibres can cause serious lung problems. It can be a little confusing, but the points should be very apparent as these are the only ones you will be able to get measurements from. The first step when building a box end is to install the fascia board so it’s level with the face of the rafter situated at the gable end. When doing this, make sure that the soffit is cut either square or mitred and it has an overhang of 10mm. Step 2: Creating the box endChildren between the ages of 6 to 9 must be accompanied on the apparatus by a paying adult on a 1 adult to 3 child basis. Compliance with these ventilation standards is required on all buildings, except those that were constructed without ventilation provision or predate the Buildings Regulations. The purpose of a fascia is to protect and seal the roof and the interior of your home from exposure to the elements, to support roof tiles at an eaves level and to provide support for the guttering.
