About this deal

Each round the players roll both die of their colour. The first player also rolls the white die. This determines which depot the goods tile for that round will be placed in. Once the goods tile has been placed the white die can be placed to one side. There’s a lot of game in the box. The expansions really are mini-expansions that only change small things in the core game, but they do add new hexes and mechanics. There are also so many double-sided player boards in the box that it’s impossible to create a strategy that would cover all of them. I’ve owned the original since it was released, and I still play it, and I still enjoy every game, regardless of it being two, three or four players. Speaking of player count…

OBJECT OF THE CASTLES OF BURGUNDY: The objective of The Castles of Burgundy is to be the player with the most victory points at the end of 5 rounds of gameplay. NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 to 4 Players MATERIALS: One hundred and Fourteen Action Cards, One Hundred and Twenty-Six Additional Cards, and Instructions TYPE OF GAME: Strategic Card Game AUDIENCE: 12+ Had my regular Cthulhu Wars crew over today. We usually try to start with something else (we've been playing a fair amount of Tiny Epic Crimes lately) and when talking about a couple other games, I...The game is set in the Burgundy region of High Medieval France. Each player takes on the role of an aristocrat, originally controlling a small princedom. While playing they aim to build settlements and powerful castles, practice trade along the river, exploit silver mines, and use the knowledge of travelers. Have the games that have come since improved and refined the core mechanics and made something similar, but better? Should I still buy this game in 2021? It is the 15th Century in Burgundy, Central France. As an influential duke it is your goal to lead your estates to prosperity through strategic expansion and trade. Roll your dice to reaveal your options and find a strategy that will lead you to victory. Whether trading or farming, building or research, many different paths lead to prosperity and prestige. There are many ways to gain victory points in this building game. Choose your strategy wisely! Goats (Animal/Light Green): A player adding the goats to their estate counts them as any animal (swine, for example.) If other animal tiles are later added to that pasture, the goats will always count as 2 additional Victory Points, even if as a different animal type than originally scored. The game is actually divided up into 5 phases, each of which will consist of 5 rounds. At the end of the 5th phase, the game is over and the winner is the one with the most victory points. Simple enough. Components:

Have the games that have come since improved and refined the core mechanics and made something similar, but better? Should I still buy this game in 2021? Yes. Yes you should But, don’t focus on one area to the exclusion of all others. Sometimes, the dice rolls just won’t be right for what you really want. Don’t forget you need to build your estate and get most points to win. So whilst you may want to focus on getting a few small areas done early on, don’t do this to the exclusion of all else. Otherwise, you may find that you run out of turns to build some of the larger areas of tiles on your board. Remember, these are worth a lot of points too. When a player places an animal tile in their estate they are immediately awarded victory points. The points are calculated by looking at how many animals of the same type are in the same pasture (area of light green connected tiles) as the tile was just placed in.Church – the player may take a grey mine, yellow knowledge or dark green castle tile from any numbered depot and add it to their supply; You each start with silver and workers, with the amount depending on start player, and you’re good to go. The game consists of five phases over five rounds. Each phase, all players roll two dice of their chosen colour, with the start player rolling the white die as well. This die indicates the depot where the goods on the phase spaces will go.
