With its 8-blade diaphragm, this Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L makes boring Canon-standard 8-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light. This original non-IS 70-200 is a sleeper of a lens. It's the lens to get for anyone on a budget shooting sports and action, or shooting on a tripod. There is a quirk with the close focusing distance, however. While you would expect that the RF lens can achieve much greater magnification than its EF sibling, given that it can focus almost twice as close (at 0.7m compared to 1.2m), in practice it doesn't deliver much greater magnification. E: Electronic diaphragm. Diaphragm stops down only on cameras introduced since about 2007 (see the complete list). The foot has two ¼″ × 20 tripod threads so you can position it for great balance with either light or heavy cameras.

Even at its close focus distance of 4 feet (1.2m) I can't get any shadows from the built-in flash of my Rebel XTi.
