Delivered with the meal are beansprouts and hiding inside them is Pan, a tiny dragon. And so begins the fun! Toby. Eric’s obnoxious next door neighbour (his parents indulge his every whim) sees Pan and decides to abduct him causing havoc in Eric’s life on the day of his birthday party. But all in all, this was a ton of fun. I definitely want to see if I can find the Elf book next, probably will have to buy it as I am sure my libraries don’t have it. I would recommend this dragon book to all. Fun and interactive and full of imagination!

Tom also writes the incredibly successful Who's in Your Book? picture-book series and is one half of the author duo behind the Dinosaur that Pooped picture-book series too, which has sold over 1.5 million copies. The Christmasaurus is currently being developed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey into an animated, feature-length movie with original songs written by Tom. The story is full of humour, and is enhanced by fabulous illustrations. Another book to appeal to kids of all ages.Tracy Darnton is a keen reader and author of children’s and YA fiction, and a graduate of Bath Spa MA Writing for Young People, where she is now an Associate Lecturer. In this one we find an egg in the book but quite soon the egg hatches in the most adorable little dragon ever! But one may guess that having dragons in books isn’t a good fit. Especially not when they breathe fire. Or when they sneeze that they blow out fireballs! I laughed, I giggled, I followed the instructions (which including imagining a huge waterballoon to keep the book from burning to a crisp), and I just had so so much fun. I received a free copy of this book by the book's publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This has to be one of the funniest children's books I have read in a while. I'm soon to become a teacher (hopefully!) and this is a book I would just absolutely love to share with a class. The illustrations are beautiful and hilarious, perfectly in keeping with the story. Keeping Pan safe and a secret from others causes Eric no end of problems and hilarity ensues throughout. Pan has a particular fondness for destruction and causing havoc through his over-confidence which is completely unintentional.

The title of this wonderful book is rather misleading. Firstly, a container of stir-fried beansprouts doesn’t really constitute dinner. Secondly, Pan is not a dragon. As he points out: “I’m a Mini-Dragon. Basically it goes: Large Dragon, Regular Dragon, Small Dragon, Komodo Dragon, Little Dragon, Tiny Dragon, Snap Dragon, Mini-Dragon. Mini-Dragons might be the littlest of the dragons, .... But we’re also the best.” After reading this book, and falling in love with Pan, you have to agree he is probably right. And while he is not the easiest of pets, causing mayhem wherever he goes, he makes a great friend, and a fantastic character for a book.Her first YA novel The Truth About Lies is a thriller set on Dartmoor about a girl who remembers everything. Described by the Guardian as “thought-provoking and crisply written…an assured and charismatic debut”, The Truth About Lies was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2019. I am slowly getting through the Who’s In Your Book series. This one was next, my library didn’t have it in English so I read this one in Dutch.
