I did end on a cliffhanger, but one I am really excited about as I have part 2 already so I can directly continue with the story 😄The romance in the story was exceptional, delivering a delightful slow burn that had me squealing with joy on multiple occasions. The morally grey nature of the male main character (MMC) added a fascinating layer of depth to the story, which I absolutely adored. The banter between the MMC and the female main character (FMC) was brilliantly witty and immensely enjoyable to read. Moreover, the pacing of the narrative was flawlessly executed, never once feeling sluggish or dragging. Services today for a queen - Coastline Pilot". Archived from the original on January 2, 2019 . Retrieved January 1, 2019. The Queen had only one way of settling all difficulties, great or small. 'Off with his head!' she said, without even looking around. Next, the plot. It is predictable. I don't want to say how predictable but if you have read as many fantasy romance as I do, then you'll know. Honey... you'll know. It kinda gave me huuugggeee FBAA vibes. Maybe it's the bodyguard-fighter princess vibe? Huh. Oh yah, the hero is the bodyguard of the princess. I haven't talk about him much, have I? Well, he was there. All smoldering and grump.

This was said to be a dark fantasy fae series and while I feel this is just the beginning, don't expect much darkness or steaminess in this one. Think of this book as a big setup for the real plot (which is what I am hoping this one was). Kearns, however, also appreciates the flower’s other meanings, and feels it far transcends its regal (and religious) roots in England. “It’s become itself a kind of iconography that stands alone,” he tells BBC Culture. “It’s associated with love, it’s associated with nature, with art, with all kinds of things, and I think in that way it creates a kind of broader subject.”
