Without telling Kondou how he feels, the latter thinks this is a burdensome chore for Aresh not the growing closeness of a lover. The art is AMAZING—not just the style (which I think is what most people tend to focus on), but also how the artist uses the art to tell the story through paneling, pacing, facial expressions, etc. The list could go on!

There's still a good amount of romance so I wouldn't say either aspect is sidelined for the other. Also, this is not to say that stories that are primarily about the romance are necessarily bad (I've read many amazing mainly-romance stories), but the plot-focus here makes the story feel much richer. Especially considering how the vast majority of BLs are usually mainly about the relationship! Cards on the table, I haven’t read a lot of manga. Because I don’t really enjoy it. And I find it confusing. I can’t tell if it’s a cultural disconnect, and I think that may be a part of it, but obviously there are plenty of non-Japanese people who enjoy manga. But I find most of it completely bewildering. And then I feel mildly guilty for feeling like it was written by extraterrestrials, because that seems uncomfortably xenophobic. But as with most things I don’t understand, I can’t help ruminating on why I don’t understand it or like it, instead of shrugging and moving on like a less obsessive person would do.

This reminded me intensely of The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent. Isekai fantasy romance in which two people are accidentally transported into a new world instead of just one.
