About this deal

The Little Book of Bob: Life Lessons from a Street-Wise Cat collects together pieces of wisdom Bowen has accumulated during his years sharing his life with his 'streetwise' cat. It was published by Hodder & Stoughton on 1 November 2018. Move over, Marley. A stray cat from north London could be heading for the lap of luxury as the cinema's next box office pet sensation." - The Times (UK) When James and Bob meet, they forge a never-to-be-forgotten friendship that has been charming readers from Thailand to Turkey. I could relate to the many things that Bob did that amazed James, just how your cat communicates with you in ways you know as the owner. I also learnt a lot in this book about the harsh streets, drugs, veterinary care and how nice people can be as well as horrible really.

On 24 August 2015, it was announced that Roger Spottiswoode would direct a film based on the book A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen, while Tim John scripted the film. [4] Adam Rolston would produce the film through his Shooting Script Films. [4] The Exchange sold the film's international rights. [6] Maria Nation also wrote the script. I've come to believe in the power of animals. I believe they can heal, teach, and push us to be better people" An instantly bestselling memoir that, besides its heartwarming tale of their friendship, offers an insight into the injustice of life on the streets." - The Times (UK)

After the appointment, James has Bob neutered and sets him free. However, Bob keeps following James into town, eventually drawing more crowds of people, making James more wealthy, and he eventually decides to keep Bob. Bob becomes a tourist hotspot and James and Betty start to become romantically attached.

After a week of gruelling withdrawal symptoms, James awakes clean and healthy. He goes to visit Betty, who is in the middle of moving and living a life meant for her to live. James and Betty end on a good note. A journalist, Mary, requests to write a book about James and Bob after his Internet and media popularity, and James agrees. I have read many stories about cats, but this is by far by favourite. Not only is Bob lovable, clever and a bit fiesty, James comes across as an incredibly warm and clever man, with a real knowledge about cats and the perfect owner for Bob. Their story is funny, emotional and uplifting and reminds you that all you need is a best friend to help you get through life. There are some great pieces of information about cats and I was also surprised to learn exactly how the Big Issue works, something that I didn't quite understand before. On 13 June 2020, Bob was fed in the kitchen of their home in Surrey and last seen at approximately 11:00 p.m., before Bowen noticed he was missing half an hour later. [7] On Monday 15 June 2020, two days after going missing, Bob was found dead at the side of a road around half a mile from his home and taken to a nearby vet's practice. Bowen was informed by the vet over the phone. The cause of death was determined to be haematoma from a head-on collision with a car, the driver of which remains unknown. [8] Bob had escaped through a skylight that had mistakenly been left ajar. He was thought to be aged between 14 and 16 years old.

What happened to Bob the Cat?

Bowen said: "Bob saved my life. It’s as simple as that. He gave me so much more than companionship. With him at my side, I found a direction and purpose that I’d been missing. The success we achieved together through our books and films was miraculous. He’s met thousands of people, touched millions of lives. There’s never been a cat like him. And never will again. A Street Cat Named Bob is a 2016 British biographical drama film directed by Roger Spottiswoode and written by Tim John and Maria Nation. It is based on the book of the same name and The World According to Bob by James Bowen. The film stars Luke Treadaway, Ruta Gedmintas, Joanne Froggatt, Anthony Head, and Bob the Cat as himself. The film premiered in London on 3 November 2016, followed by a general release the next day. The title is a spoof of A Streetcar Named Desire.

That first day, James carried Bob on his shoulder to keep him safely out of traffic. The walk from the bus stop to his preferred spot usually took a few minutes, but so many people stopped James to talk about Bob that he was late setting up. When he was finally in place, Bob settled down in James's guitar case and began attracting a great deal of attention. That day, James earned three times as much money as usual. He treated himself and Bob to a nice dinner. It's a wonderfully tale of a mans journey through, most likely, the hardest experience anyone could ever endure. Addiction isn't easy.

Is Bob the Cat still alive?

Bob: No Ordinary Cat is a version of the book A Street Cat Named Bob re-written specifically for children. It was released on Valentine's Day 2013. Firstly, as many people have mentioned, this book is not exactly well written, but it is a true and honest account of James & Bobs life - it isn't romanticised, or dramatised, it is what it is. I hear they are making a movie, and I hope they keep this natural account without making it too Hollywood.
