About this deal

Blistein, Jon (19 July 2018). "Hear Rod Stewart Preview New Album With Stirring 'Didn't I' ". Rolling Stone . Retrieved 4 August 2018. I originally listened to this book in 2013, when I blogged. Ever since then, I will ALWAYS recommend the audio to anyone and everyone because it was just SO DAMNED GOOD. (Trust me, I am not necessarily a fan. I have always generally thought of him as a wanker.) But when a friend, who lives in Minneapolis, was feeling down about her city and life in general, I told her to listen to this bit of sunshine. And what the hell, maybe I should too. And in rereading my review from 2013, I couldn't really say it better, so here it is:

Best Known For: Known for his signature raspy voice, Rod Stewart performed in several U.K. bands in the 1960s before launching a successful solo career. Turning down Decca's recommended material as too commercial, Stewart insisted that the experienced session musicians he was given, including John Paul Jones, learn a couple of Sonny Boy Williamson songs he had just heard. [59] The resulting single, " Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", was recorded and released in October 1964; despite Stewart performing it on the popular television show Ready Steady Go!, it failed to enter the charts. Also in October Stewart left the Hoochie Coochie Men after having a row with Baldry. [58] Stewart comes from a modest family that appeared to be lower middle class. Yet, when his career takes off, he makes no mention of his family's reaction. Did he help them out financially? Were they happy for him? Were they envious? None of this is ever talked about. Aside from mentioning his brothers and father in the context of football, we learn nothing about their relationship. Brentford FC: History". Brentford F.C. In May 2000, Stewart was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, for which he underwent surgery the same month. It had been previously reported he suffered from a benign vocal cord nodule. [150] Besides being a major health scare, the resulting surgery also threatened his voice, and he had to re-learn how to sing. [151] Since then he has been active in raising funds for The City of Hope Foundation charity to find cures for all forms of cancer, especially those affecting children. [150] In September 2019, Stewart revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, and has been given the all-clear after treatment. [152] Kitts, Thomas M. (2008). Stewart became attracted to beatnik attitudes and left-wing politics, living for a while in a beatnik houseboat at Shoreham-by-Sea. [36] He was an active supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament at this time, joining the annual Aldermaston Marches from 1961 to 1963 and being arrested on three occasions when he took part in sit-ins at Trafalgar Square and Whitehall for the cause. [28] [36] He also used the marches as a way to meet and bed girls. [36] [38] In 1962, he had his first serious relationship, with London art student Suzannah Boffey (a friend of future model and actress Chrissie Shrimpton); he moved to a bed-sit in Muswell Hill to be near her. [39] She became pregnant, but neither Rod nor his family wanted him to enter marriage; the baby girl was given up for adoption and Rod and Suzannah's relationship ended. That said, this book comes recommended. It's way more interesting than many autobiographies mostly because Rod started singing very young and was around for exciting times with exciting people. Lots of good stuff in here.

Selected discography

Rod Stewart Has One Big Family — Meet the Legendary Singer's 8 Kids". Closer Weekly. 4 January 2020 . Retrieved 30 April 2020. Except for his interest in Pre-Raphaelite paintings (the world will lose 130 of those if Rod's mansion should burn down in an L.A. firestorm), he has got to be one of the most superficial, self-centered, cowardly people, with almost no interest in anything but himself, getting drunk and playing soccer, and screwing models. Stewart recorded vocals with Joe Walsh on the Frankie Miller album Frankie Miller's Double Take, which was released on 30 September 2016. [132] [ bettersourceneeded] He sang his cover of the Beatles' " Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" as Sgt. Pepper for Beat Bugs episode 17b, which debuted 18 November 2016 on Netflix. [133] At the same, Stewart was quoted responding to John Lennon's 1980 assertion that Stewart's hit "The Killing of Georgie (Part 1 and 2)" plagiarised his song " Don't Let Me Down", declaring to The Guardian: "It does sound like it, [...] Nothing wrong with a good steal!".
