About this deal

A multi-purpose filter which absorbs ultraviolet rays that often make outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. UV filters are colourless and can be used in combination with other filters. They are also recommended as a general lens protector, to leave on lenses at all times - this protects the front element from scratches, dust and moisture. Its sharp UV cut property cuts out the UV light while not having any negative effect on the colours in the visible light spectrum, so there will never be an unwanted change of colours in your image. As UV light can potentially cause a haze and blue colour cast under certain conditions, the filter will reduce such negative effects which will make your final image ultimately sharper and clearer. However, this is a potential weak spot. While the glass may be strong, coatings can be relatively fragile and can easily get scratched or depleted simply by regular cleaning. Again, this Hoya UV filter comes to the fore with no less than 32 layers of super-tough nano-structure coatings applied to both sides of the glass. As well as ensuring optimum optical performance, the coatings repel moisture and grease and are rated at 800 per cent more scratch-resistant then regular coatings. These are sometimes also referred to as de-haze or daylight filters. One should be chosen which matches the thread size of your specific lens, most commonly sized in millimetres such as 67mm or 77mm etc. You will find this written on your lens barrel or in the description when purchasing one. The 16-layer anti-reflective high-transmittance multi-coating on both sides of the filter glass greatly reduces the chance of any reflections caused by the filter. As the coating comes with a water- and oil-repellent feature while also being stain-resistant, cleaning the filter is easy and stress-free. PROFILE FRAME

Lens Filters Clear UV and Protection Filters Polarising Filters Neutral Density Filters Cokin Creative Filter System Other Filters Filter Stepping Rings Close-Up Lenses Ultraviolet (UV) haze filters: Reduce haze, and they're commonly left on the lens permanently as a lens protector

Polarizing filters: Reduce glare, cut unwanted reflections from water, and saturate colours, making skies appear bluer and clouds whiter I think that if you want to really cut the purple fringing on a long lens you need a stronger cutoff still. I'm not sure whether they are still easily available, but Skylight (1A or 1B) filters cut more of the UV end of the spectrum, just touching on the visible. Even stronger filters used to be readily available in the days of film, but you would probably have to go to a specialist supplier to get them now.
