About this deal

The dancing in my kitchen started because I love to have fun and there is something about the perfect song and the perfect moment that lifts my spirit. It’s how God made me and it’s grown into an act of freedom and celebration that I bring into even the most stressful weeks. I want my kids to know that is part of their family’s DNA, but it’s also because I need it. Foster writes, ‘Just as worship begins in Holy Expectancy it ends in Holy Obedience.’ What does that mean for you this next week? At our School of Leadership, one of the most important moments –it’s a turning point – is the party we throw after one of the most important days of the week where we journey through some deep stuff together. Without fail that party is the most beautifulcelebration of family that springs up during the week. It’s a celebration among people who have journeyed together, prayed for each other and challenged each other. Her little flat was perfect for long chats, Saturday mornings with coffee, Nutella breakfast muffins and One Tree Hill (don't judge us!) where our friend would come over from the flat across the hall and join us. One of the unique things about that flat was that the kitchen had a bright blue bobbly floor which stood out and provided a tiny but adequate dance floor for when the tunes were just right and life demanded it! Celebration of Discipline, as a book, can be portrayed as a spiritual manual, which places emphasis on the idea of aligning with the one Universal Power . In such regards, getting the big picture, and absorbing the twelve Spiritual Disciplines, open the doors to a mind-blowing revelation.

In a way, it shouldn’t be so exciting. The twelve disciplines he covers he calls the classical disciplines - classic both because they are ancient and “because they are central to experiential Christianity.”

What is your motto? – Have you ever questioned or conducted an inquiry to find more about the actual meaning of life? The book is wonderful I urge you to buy it, read it, and put it into practice. Feel free to challenge me on this in the weeks and months to come – if you don’t see growth in my life, it’s because I’ve let this slip, and I don’t want to. This year I’m seeking more depth in my life. This book has given me the tools to find it – but only if I use them. Worship didn't do too much for me because it involves so much interaction with other people, but maybe I'm just not there yet. Several parts of service, submission, and solitude almost seemed interchangeable, and I'll need to reread them to get a better understanding. I thought I knew all about service since I try to see where I can be helpful to God or others throughout the day, but the book took it in a different direction, not to mention a rather demanding one. I thought I was good at that shit, but it turns out this young grasshopper has a lot to learn.

He is the author of several books, related to Christian philosophy. “Celebration of Discipline PDF Summary” It's mercifully short, and it's organized neatly. But Foster has some odd notions regarding spirituality which I do not fully agree with. He advocates some sound practices, but he cannot avoid throwing in some charismatic nonsense which ends up spoiling much of the batch. The best bit is that the dancing and celebration is fuelled by the journey. Rather than alcohol-fuelled confidence, there is a sense of trust in the room that sees people dance the night out in celebration of freedom. All that God has done is tangible in the room alongside the neon lights, 80s tunes and UV paint! 2. Laughter!Foster quotes an old proverb on silence: “All those who open their mouths, close their eyes!” (p. 98). Silence is difficult, but silence indicates trust (p. 100). He also indicates that there is something of a paradox with regard to silence, “If we are silent when we should speak, we are not living in the Discipline of silence. If we speak when we should be silent, we again miss the mark.” (p. 99) If you struggle to know where to start, then celebrate it in others. Investigate artistswho speak to you and poetry that opens up life in a totally different way. In our day heaven and earth are on tiptoe waiting for the emergence of a Spirit-led, Spirit-intoxicated, Spirit-empowered people. All of creation watches expectantly for the springing up of a disciplined, freely gathered, martyr people who know in this life the life and power of the kingdom of God. It has happened before. It can happen again.
