About this deal

And do the rooms really reflect the owners? In a sense, they definitely do. In another sense, they scream Heuman so much that I personally wouldn't hire her because I would want my rooms to scream "me." Beata Heuman: starts off "you will not always agree with me, and I wouldn't expect you to...this book is about individuality and striking a chord." Encourage contrast, all design that moves those who experience it lies in contrasts. Lights will only be light when seen against dark. Rich will only seem truly rich in the context of the plain. You need tension and release.. Contrasting elements make each appear more vibrant. Aim for a subtle balance. Small feels cozy whereas large offers more energized and emboldened feeling. Having the right balance will help you experience each element better. All the colors sing together; their strength is determined by the needs of the chorus. It’s like a musical chord.” (Henri Matisse) (p. 218) Beata not only quotes Matisse but has incorporated several Matisse-style shapes and prints in her patterns – pp.80, 131, 199, , 237 You may also opt to downgrade to Standard Digital, a robust journalistic offering that fulfils many user’s needs. Beata: “My house isn’t ‘modern’ in the most basic sense of the word, but I’m also not interested in rehashing the past. I like to be inspired by history, but then taking it to a place that feels current and fresh. At the same time, I don’t sit there thinking, ‘How can I make this contemporary?’– it’s more of a natural process. I do like how Beata has had the wisdom such as “all the tabletops are rounded for a more welcoming feel and to avoid hard edges. The gray tables are very simple, and I really like how they almost look basic, which grounds the overall scheme.” (p. 116) As with our projects, most of the pieces and detailing in the house are bespoke, from the Art Deco glass ceiling in the kitchen, inspired by the grand cafés of Scandinavia, to the daybed we designed that’s upholstered in Joseph Frank fabric and the dodo egg lights in the kitchen.I think mixing things from different eras, and from all over the world, makes things more interesting and livelier. It makes me excited to look at a room and see a mix of lots of different things. That’s what human nature is: a great big mix. Almost everyone believes that there is something deep and mysterious about [interior decoration] or that you have to know all sorts of complicated details about periods before you can lift a finger. Well, you don’t…decorating is just sheer fun: a delight in color, an awareness of balance, a feeling for lighting, a sense of style, a zest for life, and an amused enjoyment of the smart accessories of the moment.” (Dorothy Draper) (p. 236).

rounded up because I'm painfully conflicted. ;-) Is Beata Heuman a genius? Every room screamed Beata Heuman, yet some I absolutely loved (and could move right into and never redecorate ever again) and some I loathed. How is that even possible? I'm assuming that's because these rooms really reflected the personalities of the owners more than it seems at first glance. The rooms I loved were probably the ones of the owners who has similar tastes to mine.Noble Barn reminds of where I grew up in Sweden – in fact, it looks a little like a slightly dilapidated building on my parents’ farm that I currently have my eye on. One day I hope it will be our dreamy holiday house.” A strictly uniform approach might look awful or it might look great, but in both instances it is without the mark of individual personality. If a space does not allow you to be your complete self, how can you be happy there? We are all different and contradictory in nature - serious and silly at once. I think we need this complexity reflected in the things around us to feel stimulated and at ease. We are more than just one thing. The home should be a true reflection of who you are and where you are, but you also want to make sure your surroundings are the best versions of themselves, to serve your intentions for the kind of life you want to lead. Her style, how she approaches rooms and her take of what it means to decorate and furnish a home is so down to earth, intimate and personal and most of all - fun. There is no room for grand show-offy things or too grown-up brown-beige-neutrals shade schemes. Instead, there are colours, fluid shapes, quirky details, old and new mixed together but in a much much more interesting way than your regular "throw in a thrift store find to spice things up". And then, many of the "bespoke" pieces just looked like what DIYers have been popularizing on social media for ages now -- paint a vintage piece, add some trim to plain curtains, build a headboard. Charge a fortune, LOL! I'm just not sure, but is it then easy to get the look for less? My style isn’t for over decoration – there aren’t lots of mouldings or stuff like that. We think a lot about how a space is going to work practically, like storage and heights of fixtures. So, thinking about the practical side of a project and how it can feel comfortable is important.

Another Stalin work, a self-portrait, hangs above a Beata Heuman ‘New Wave Country’ sofa covered in Turnell & Gigon’s ‘Bernardo Paisley’. The cushions are vintage Ikea. Bought and restored in Britain, the lamps on the console behind are 1940s. Through the door you can see into the main bedroom In my projects and in my home, I’m interested in creating different environments that present something other and have a transportive element. So, here, I’ve drawn from lots of references to create little ‘worlds’. The overall effect is intoxicating, and the owners are understandably thrilled. 'It has been an amazing project,' says Beata. 'Having the opportunity to be this creative is very unusual'.The things people are interested in just go around in cycles and I’m sure once this moment has blown over everyone is going to be into something much more simple again, which is why you can’t be bogged down by trends. It all just evolves, and becomes more refined in the process, I think.” If you do nothing, you will be auto-enrolled in our premium digital monthly subscription plan and retain complete access for 65 € per month. The interior designer gathers dahlias in front of her mother’s greenhouse, one artistically spattered with chalk to protect the vines from harsh sunlight For cost savings, you can change your plan at any time online in the “Settings & Account” section. If you’d like to retain your premium access and save 20%, you can opt to pay annually at the end of the trial. Obviously, if you hire an interior designer, the truth is that we do everything in one go. But it’s important to me for our projects not to look too ‘done’. It should look like it’s evolved over time, which will allow it to continue to evolve.
