About this deal

There are also features on each month's unique nature, such as the meteor shower of the month, beehive behaviour, folklore, seasonal recipes and charts tracking moon phases and tides. On this day, the Devil fell from Heaven and landed on a bramble; he duly cursed its fruits so blackberries are not to be eaten after this day! Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). There are stories, songs, recipes, connections to the natural world and a sense that there are patterns to the year that have been going on for millennia. Lia Leendertz has produced another superb gem of a book in “THE ALMANAC” - A seasonal guide to 2023.

No portion of this page (including sounds, images, style-sheets and code) may be copied or used without the express permission of WildSounds. The illustrations by Whooli Chen are beautiful and I couldn’t decide if they would have been even better in colour or whether that would detract from their exquisite subtlety. It is littered with black-lined illustrations and images that correspond perfectly to the item they accompany. I found it hard to keep this book for the new year, wanting to read through it before 2022 is even out. January – there are important dates for this month followed by a wonderful page of what January represents, it is a time of reflection as the daylight hours are not as long as we would like.Thank you to Anne of Random Things Tours and to Octopus Books for the opportunity to join the blog tour for The Almanac by Lia Leendertz, illustrated by Whooli Chen. For a small hardback book this book contains a wealth of information, fascinating facts and interesting, useful information. Each month has a Bun of the Month plus another appropriate recipes - just to give you a taste (see what I did there) of what to expect fig and tahini challah, meadowsweet champagne and marzipan hot cross buns are all on offer.

The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2023 gives you the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way. Packed full of information including key dates, tide tables, garden tasks, sunrises, moon phases, seasonal recipes, folk songs and more this beautiful little book will help you connect month by month with the seasons of Britain and Ireland. A little peek here and there led me to reading the book fully but I’ll still be reading it each month, as it’s honestly such an adorable book. In this bleak December, I'm hearted by the fact that we are approaching the Winter solstice tomorrow. An almanac is not designed to be consumed in one sitting, so I took one month at random to see what was on offer. January - there are important dates for this month followed by a wonderful page of what January represents, it is a time of reflection as the daylight hours are not as long as we would like. I have often bought an Almanac for the coming year and they have varied in quality, usefulness and beauty.
