About this deal

Thanks for your review, Marialena… the problem with mixing may be due to the pigment content in each of the colours. I think that Kuretake has to deal with this issue because these colour sets offer otherwise some very good features that you can’t find in other watercolour sets. When applied thickly the finish is a gentle sheen rather than the matte usually offered by watercolours. Overlay ‘Dry Base’ Mix – I will address all colours in one segment here, as they behaved in the same way.

I’ll let you join my new Japanoisery School for being a pioneer and putting in the advance work, and for sharing. Less layers this time ( I didn’t bother that much ) and again all the mixes I did were weak in colour and dried quite dull and three to four tones lighter than I expected. The extra chart is more helpful for deciding which color I want to use and how much water I’ll want to add to it.

Unfortunately, the process is hard to show because you could do it a thousand times and it would never come out the same way. For my painting style, that includes mixing colours ( that was the reason why I got the 12 colour set), colour sets that can’t be mixed properly or give weak results, is a big disadvantage. Some people say they have a pastel-like finish, but to my eye, the finished paintings look more like acrylic.akane-iro - Madder rose - madder is one of the earliest pigments, traditionally derived from madder root and first used by the ancient Egyptians. They were poured into large pans suitable for the large brushes used in Japanese painting and formulated for Japanese rice papers. Water-based pigment paint can be highly opaque when used solely as a gouache but can also become more transparent depending on the amount of water added for dilution. Unless specified, offers and vouchers are not valid on products which are already discounted from RRP, gift vouchers, books and from the I LOVE ART range. Each box also includes a color chart so you can swatch the colours yourself and distinguish between them quickly.

Not a vivit white with opacity like the usual white, but a soft and transparent color with a slight warmth unique to Gofun. This set is packaged in a study green presentation case with a lid perfect for creating a painted colour chart.

Another distinctive feature of gansai is its ability to be easily blended and layered, allowing artists to achieve smooth transitions and create delicate washes. Again, I wouldn’t go out of my way to mix the colours produced by this method, as the metallics overpower the neons, regarless of the ratio of colours. Nihonga (literally Japanese painting or picture) is an art form rooted in centuries of Japanese cultures. The Gansai Tambi Japanese watercolour paint set from Kuretake comes with 18 traditional Japanese colours, designed for use by professional artists and enthusiasts alike. If heavily diluted the paint dries highly translucent or with less saturation it dries opaquely with a slight sheen.
