After realizing the word "vacation" is frequently associated with relaxation, Kenya Kobayashi named the game Go Vacation to clarify that it is a game in which you must be active. As ONM’s main reviewer, this meant I’d spent the past five years suffering my way through countless half-arsed money grabs.

Everything from Go Vacation’s appearance, style, gameplay, and pure existence hark back to those strangely repetitive days of the Wii, where everyone and their cat was releasing a party-type sports game for Nintendo’s remote-waggling sensation.The best way to play the game is undoubtedly on your TV with a Joy-Con in each hand like a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, because that’s clearly how the game was designed. Now it’s been granted a surprise re-release on Switch, and it’s just as entertaining as I remember it being seven years ago. While some of the mini-games are less than perfect, that does not matter: if you have (medium) small children they will love this, and they can quickly play without any need for supervision. In this day and age, Go Vacation stands alone as the sole option for anyone who fancies dipping back into the Wii days. Since the Switch launched, a lot of commentators (including myself) have continually pointed out how nice it is that Wii U games like Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are getting a second chance to reach the audiences they initially deserved.

The resorts were not directly based on any real-life locations, although Kobayashi said the Marine Resort "might be inspired by things you find in Hawaii". Even though its mini-games can be played by up to four players, as a solo game it’s still entertaining: it’ll take you ages to play through every event, clear them on every difficulty and get all the unlockables.In addition, you can decorate your own holiday villa on the island, enjoy delicious food at snack stands or take a photo safari. To be able to purchase content for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family systems, your funds usable through the Nintendo Account must be merged with the funds tied to your Nintendo Network ID.

Go Vacation enriches its service range with customized and luxury tours, groups and incentives programs, and representative and airport service.Replaying mini-games on harder difficulties can also earn you keys, which can be used to unlock new furniture at your villa. Despite criticising it just moments ago, we must say that the exploration of the four areas eventually becomes the game’s saving grace, to an extent. Some minigames require or allow for the use of different controllers and accessories, such as MotionPlus controller or the Balance Board.
