About this deal

Brandreth had the opportunity to spend considerable time with the Queen over the years - and even more time with Philip - and he weaves comments (kept in his prodigious diary) alongside quotes from some of her best verbatims (usually done when asked to do voice over thoughts in documentaries). LOOKING FORWARD TOO READING THIS THE AUTHOR WAS A FRIEND OF PRINCE PHLIP AND KNEW HIM WELL SHOULD BE A GOOD READ. Gyles Brandreth quoted resources never used before, most interesting a true tribute to our beloved Queen. It is a documentary of her life of service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth that she loved so much. More likely the seventh Viscount Gage, now such a little-known figure that he doesn’t even have his own Wikipedia page.

Far too much talk of Harry and Megan (who he obviously doesn't like), far too little mention of Prince William and Catherine. And the author actually met both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, which made his account of events more reliable. She allowed herself to be photographed riding with Andrew in Windsor Great Park the day after she relieved him of his royal duties to show her personal support, and was in favour of his appearance at her side at Philip’s memorial service. Brandreth once suggested to Prince Philip that the term emotional self-sufficiency described both royal highnesses. This intimate, personal biography tells the story of her life, reign and times, from a perspective unlike any other.Tell us why you liked or disliked the book; using examples and comparisons is a great way to do this. Told with a refreshing dose of humour and moving honesty from a totally unique viewpoint, Elizabeth- An Intimate Portrait is the must-have biography of the longest-serving monarch in English history, of a woman who has represented not only her people but stood as an emblem of fortitude and resilience worldwide, throughout her long life. His many books include the bestselling poetry anthology, Dancing by the Light of the Moon, and the international bestseller about spelling and punctuation, Have You Eaten Grandma? I really enjoyed listening to Gyles narrating this book - was very interesting to see all the parallels between different generations.

After that, the biggest impression is how the Queen was in control of her emotions and how little she let people know what she was thinking and feeling.I absolutely loved this book from start to finish, I enjoyed reading about the Queens life from childhood until her last days, I liked reading about her relationships with her sister, her friends and those close to her. I've read this book promptly because an awful lot of it I have read in the Philip a final portrait book.
