About this deal

It is the first book on these creatures that combines a broad, worldwide sample with full-color, life-size accounts. Immediate deforestation and nationwide urbanisation following colonisation completely eliminated many species from throughout much of the country and restricted them to small, degraded forest patches. Snakes can convey both beauty and menace in a single tongue flick, and so these creatures have held a special place in our cultures.

Snakes of the World explores their extraordinary diversity, with an in-depth introduction covering anatomy, behavior, habitats, reproduction, conservation, and other essential topics. More than any other creature snakes are surrounded by dark, compelling myths and legend, unsurprising since many constrict their prey to death, or kill with a venomous bite, using a diverse armory of venoms that affect the blood, tissues, organs, and respiration. It will bring greater understanding of a group of reptiles that have existed for more than 160 million years and that now inhabit every continent except Antarctica, as well as two of the great oceans. May have some underlining and highlighting of text and some writing in the margins, but there are no missing pages or anything else that would compromise the readability or legibility of the text.Unfortunately there’s only one photo per entry, and I wish more subtypes were included (the three major types of short-tailed python all look very different). Due to the entrepôt nature of Singapore with its associated purchasing and trading of specimens (both alive and dead), poor record-keeping, and human introductions, numerous extraneous species from outside of Singapore were reported to occur on the island. The most common opinion is that coral snakes display aposematic marks and that other red and black banded snakes in the Americas are mimics of coral snakes. However, it is especially true of snakes that the closer you observe them, the more exquisite they are in their intricate geometry of pattern, the fine texture of the overlapping scales, and the intricacies of their multifarious lifestyles.

Testing the working hypothesis that bands and red are protective against snake predators via their association with ophiophagy, as ophiophagous snakes are at higher risk, I find that the consumption of elongate vertebrates predicts band and red coloration with a very high level of confidence: red and bands are probably defensive against snake predators. Unlike other companies under RER, information on the diversity of snake species in PT GAN is not yet available. Did you know that a chameleon’s tongue is so long that it can be twice the length of its entire body, or that a large snake may have up to 400 bones in its spine? Some people recoil in fear at the very suggestion of these creatures, while others happily keep them as pets. I find that ophiophagy appears to be an exceptionally high risk in snakes that are themselves ophiophagous.Accessible and comprehensive, this book describes the universal cellular nature of living organisms and is an indispensable tool for anyone in the sciences who wishes to get a quick overview of molecular biology.

There are over 3,700 species of snake found on every continent except for Antarctica, ranging in size from Barbados' tiny threadsnake to Southeast Asia's massive reticulated python. You will learn how their bodies work and where they live and discover amazing facts about their habits, life cycles, survival skills and ancestors.Observations were made using the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method on four observation transects. Zuidema 2002), parasites and diseases (Burridge 2011; Chang and Jacobson 2010; Cooper 2000;Dietz et al. Packed with fascinating facts such as physical and behavioural characteristics, this guide also includes focused profiles of 60 snakes, from the Rainbow Boa to the Tropical Rattlesnake. Finally, I very much hope that this book increases understanding and appreciation of these wonderful creatures. Children aged 7+ can learn all about snakes from the very first page of this book, which combines little-known information with engaging text and an exciting design.
