About this deal

On Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and Jack Kirby as science-fiction fans, see Benton, Mike, Masters of Imagination, Taylor Publishing, 1994, pp.

But pretty soon, the Adam West TV show came along, and while it borrowed the 'New Look', the stories themselves were based on the campy tone of the 50's and early 60's stories, without the sci-fi craziness of course. The daily Batman newspaper strip began in 1966, on the heels of the Batmania craze created by the hit television series staring Adam West, and ran through the early 1970s. Individual volumes tend to focus on collecting either the works of prolific comic creators, like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko; major comic book events like " Blackest Night" and " Infinite Crisis"; complete series or runs like Gotham Central and Grayson or chronological reprints of the earliest years of stories featuring the company's most well-known series and characters like Batman and Justice League of America. I loved these stories when I was six and I still find them powerful in their purity and in the exuberance of their simple, often ridiculous plots. The standout performance in the film was the late Heath Ledger’s extraordinary portrayal of the Joker, for which he won a posthumous Academy Award as best supporting actor.

The DC artists responsible included Murphy Anderson, Gil Kane, Ramona Fradon, Mike Sekowsky, and Joe Kubert. However, the TV show did cause Alfred to be brought back to life and Barbara Gordon to be introduced as the new Batgirl. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data.

Of course in the late 50s and early 60s they had more of these "outlandish" stories, but unlike with the other eras you can really pin down a definitive point where it started.I actually stopped collecting the Batman Golden Age Omnibus’ because they got to the period of stories that were at best silly fun and at worst boring, childish fodder. While the Flash is popularly regarded as DC's first Silver Age super-hero, that honor actually goes to the Martian Manhunter, whose debut predated Flash's by nearly a year. A result of the stormy 1950s, when comics had to do deal with censorship and financial losses, is that not much new talent entered the business.
