About this deal

The resulting RIAA preamp has been built into every hi-fi and stereo amplifier with phono or turntable inputs since then. Andertons Music Company is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, firm registration number 716155.

I used a signal generator to balance the Scarlett channels and use the PREII to set the recording levels. My JLTI Phono on the other hand does sound better, but then it cost almost as much as the entire AVR. ART has specialized in signal processing since 1984, when they built their first high definition equalizers and digital reverbs. The Onkyo 809 is being used as a preamp, sending its output to a Monarchy Audio SM-70 Pro, feeding a nice pair of Genesis Physics II's that I totally rebuilt the crossovers in. The DJPRe II though starts to have a negative phase shift below 1 kHz and it progressively gets worse down to 20 Hz at some 66 degrees. So if you're someone who has a turntable that doesn't have a ground wire, then there's potential that you may not need it with this pre-amp.

And I should point out that on some records, that point of just before flicker could be at something like 4 or -4 for example. One gets unnecessary balanced inputs on line stages and domestic power amps, yet unbalanced inputs on the only items where they would be fully justified. With the exception of the blue beacon that resides on the face of this preamp, I am thoroughly satisfied with the ART DJPRE II. To those of you who own this preamp and still use it: do you turn the rumble filter on or do you leave it off?Instead of having the main volume jacked way up, I have it at the same level as I would with any other input, and that alone probably made the largest improvement.

The ART DJ Pre II Phono Preamp is interesting for all those who want to use a turntable with an audio input that is not a dedicated phono input. The ART DJ Pre II provided a very flexible and clear way of boosting the phono signal to match the volume of the AppleTV. If you were to try this as well, I'd suggest to seek out an original OEM Nintendo power supply, not a 3rd party one. dlaloum wrote:It also has the advantage of a high quality regulated power supply in the AVR, whereas a lot of the more economical phono stages use wall warts - which deliver relatively dirty power. I'm using a Technics SL-1200 M3D (which has had the ground wire integrated with the RCA plugs) *for whatever that info is worth*.That's why I think it's best to adjust the gain to your liking as I don't think there's a universal rule of thumb that will work for everyone. Another added bonus is on this receiver (TX-870), the CD input has a "CD Direct" setting, which allows you to bypass the receiver preamp and associated tone controls.
