Wheatley’s artwork immensely helped during the boring parts for me, just the fact the next gorgeous artwork awaits me, I was able to push myself reading through the boredom. In my opinion, the whole Dance of the Dragons could have been written in a more engaging way, since it's one of Westeros's most interesting and bloody chapters, but it fell kind of flat in here. Dust jacket is also very clean with minor edge wear and traces of the red ink of the boards beginning to transfer to the inside of the dust jacket. The books often make passing reference to historical events that shaped the creation of this world (in this case, the creation of Westeros) without fleshing out those references, and this book seeks to provide the full back story; well, half of it!

As a conscientious objector, Martin did alternative service 1972-1974 with VISTA, attached to Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. And plenty of action too, of the kind you associate with Game of Thrones: wars, conspiracies, betrayals, beheadings, poisonings going on all over Westeros, with additional dollops of violence and mayhem floating in from across the Narrow Sea. The result is an utterly confusing conglomeration of names and characters of such complexity that it's extremely difficult to keep straight who's who.Once upon a time, Martin had a wonderful relationship with his fans, and interacted with them freely and positively.
